Vietnamese 15th Century Blue & White Porcelain Dish - Hoi An Hoard (with book)

This attractive and sizeable dish was made during the mid 15th century, probably around the 1430's - 1440's. It is quite "heavily-potted" and has been decorated in underglaze blue in a variety of floral and lotus leaf patterns with a crackled glaze...

A wonderfull pair of decorative pottery figures of seated Dignitaries or Officials, dating to Ming Dynasty, 1368-1644.

Elderly men with beards, seated on chairs, with their right arms to the belt and the left to their knees. They are dressed in large dark blue and torqouis colored robes, with a dark blue hats on their heads.

Height: c. 21 cm.

Condition: A superb pair of pottery figures with wear for age and type.

A spending antique Chinese Kwan Yin sculpture made in the late Ming Dynasty. Kwan Yin or Guanyin and Avalokiteshvara is the Bodhisattva of compassion. Here she stands samabhanga on a simple base with robes flowing and clinging naturally over and to her long, slender body. Her feet peek from beneath her robes.

Her hands are held with her thumb and middle finger touching in the vitarka mudra of teaching. Her hair is piled high on her head. Her gaze serene and slightly downcast...

Burmese alabaster Buddha sitting in Mara Vijaya (calling the earth to witness) posture on a base, with original lacquer and inlay of colorful glass pieces on the headband.

Hemp furoshiki with tsutsugaki tai (sea bream) and bamboo design, whose wefts and warps are hand plied. The family crest is Maruni-Katabami-Mon. Katabami is perennial plant, named oxalis. Hand-sewn but both hems are machine sewn. The sewing machine was already imported in late Edo period and probably it was used widely in Meiji period (1868∼1912). Eight petal Chinese Tang dynasty (618-907) foliate form bronze mirror with central pierced knob and four relief characters reading “long life, riches, and honor” (chang ming fu gui). 7 1/4” diameter. Good condition overall with typical wear and extensive patina. From the estate of Gerhard Lohmeier, a Diplomat at the German Embassy in Beijing from 1985 to 1989.

Authentic 1858 coloured antique steel engraving of Jawahar Singh and his entourage from the watercolour attributed to William Carpenter in the Kapany collection. Inscription on reverse dated circa 1845. Image size 32x22 cm. Laid down on card. Image in good condition, background card with creases and tears.
