The glaze on this large fragmentary Iznik tile is brilliant, showing no sign of erosion or flaking. Although incomplete, it is probably 90% of the original size and is completely stable. The colors are superb, and the drawing is perfectly controlled, as one would expect to find in the very highest quality ceramics of the period. An elegant Ottoman tulip candlestick in the plain style. Bell-shaped base with deep drip tray, the rim with two loops, the multifaceted baluster neck ending in a tulip shaped finial. This is one of a group of moulded pottery tablets that we bought about twenty years ago. They are made from a relatively high-fired pottery and have a surprising amount of detail. They were made as amulets and votive offerings and were reported to have been excavated from the foundations of an ancient Buddhist temple, where originally many would have been placed to ensure the success of the temple...

A wonderfully preserved massive Iron hatch with lock for an oven or a chimney, European, Renaissance, ca. 1480-1520.

The hatch is finely decorated with large attached rosettes and rivets and the still functioning lock ends in a twisted grib in the gothic form. Possibly Danish or Northern German and comes from an esteemed Danish private collection.
