Vajradhara or Dorje Chang in Tibetan is the ultimate primordial Buddha or Adi Buddha according to the Gelug and Kagyu schools of Tibetan Buddhism. Japanese Meiji period Genroku porcelain hibachi of cylindrical form finely decorated around the circumference in underglaze blue plovers flying over crashing foaming waves set against a white ground. The base holds the mark of “Tominaga Genroku sei” together with the Genroku Studio mark. Tominaga Genroku (1859-1920) opened the Genroku kiln in Saga Prefecture in 1888 with a goal of producing fine quality porcelain. A nice famille jaune bat motive tea cup. It has a Tonzhi seal mark both on the cover and the base of the cup and is of the period.

A minor manufacturing flaw on the cover (photo 2)and five hair lines as shown in the photos 4 and 5. two with stain and the other can be seen at certain angle only. Other than that, it is in fine condition, no chip or repair.

A very unusual Katana held in a saya (scabbard) made to look like a gnarled branch cut into a poor man’s cane. When pulled a spring-loaded mechanism releases two iron flanges creating a very effective tsuba hand guard. The blade is unsigned, measuring Nishaku nissun nibu {26-1/2 inches (67.3 cm)}. The remnants of a piece of paper remain glued to the saya with the name Masaaki Noma (?) written in cursive Roman letters, followed by UZUMASA, an area in Kyoto city. The end is capped in metal, ...

Description: A rectangular brush-licker was made from a multi-colored pudding stone.
Preserving with fine greasy patina on the surface, the brush-licker was kept in a very good condition except some old abrasions and some original stone defects.
Brush-licker was used for adjusting brush wet when scholars were practicing calligraphy or Chinese brush painting.
In usually-seen flat and simple form, the artistry will always come out of the original beauty of the material itself.
