Rare Japanese Meiji period woodblock print triptych of the Tokyo-Ueno/Yamashita Train and Ueno Station from the series “Famous Places in Tokyo” by Utagawa Kunitoshi (flourished 1847-1899) dated 1st month of Meiji 22 (1889). The triptych is bound in the original folder and has not been exposed to sunlight. "Enlightenment" prints of the 1880's - 1890's promoted modernization and illustrated the westernization of Japan. Description:

A decent wood stand was well structured by precious Zitan and burl wood.
Framed by a unique species of Da-Yei Zitan, and panelled with burl wood board in the center, the wood stand was reinforced in the underside with lacquered cotton cloth.
Strong and sound, the wood stand was yielded on the surface with darken patina.

Description: An unique tea caddy like this piece was made with an extraordinary wood trunk which is in a scholar rock's shape and was framed with pewter. A beautifully decorated Qing dynasty famille rose plate with 5 different brightly coloured butterflies alternating with bamboo leave, melon plant, chrysanthemum flower, morning glory flower and cherry flower. The base of the plate bears the six-character reign mark of Guangxu (1875-1908) and of the late Qing Dynasty period.

There is a minor firing fault at the top right hand corner where the reign mark is...

Kangxi Period (1662-1722) Chinese blue and white porcelain export covered jar decorated on one side with the "one hundred antiques" motif and on the opposite side with figures in a landscape. Auspicious symbols decorate the lid. The 4-character hallmark on the base appears to translate "record of beauty, benevolence and profit." 8 1/2"H and diameter. Finial replaced. Numerous old chips to the cover and base.

A white jade covered entirely by Han style dragons creating an abstract design of swirls and curls. The jade has a hole on the wider end of stone making it usable as a pendant or a pocket jade. Period: Early Ching (18th Century) Size: H = 2-1/4", W = 1-1/4" Condition: No repairs or chips.

Mingqi, pottery figures with green and brown glaze and remains of black painting. The man holding a dish and the lady holding an unidentified object. Ming dynasty (1368-1644). The dating of this pair is consistent with the reults of the TL-test no. 12231113 by Laboratory Ralf Kotalla. Condition: expected age wear, no damage or repair.

Decorated with a qilin in the center and floral scroll in the exterior. W=19 cm. Early Ming 1368-1398. Condition : star hairline on the base and small chips on the foot rim, but free from restorations.

Description: A nephrite jade pendant was carved as a tiger’s head. By a grayish tint, the jade piece was revealed with blackish incursions along the stone tissues and accompanied with ice crackles. They were all resulted from long time of burial. In adequate size, the jade piece was an ideal accessory in the past and in nowadays as well. For over 1000 years the Chinese have used Bamboo Shoots for the art of divination, forecasting the future. The shoot are tossed on a table or to the ground. The landing position of the shoots is the determining factor. This pair of divination shoots is over 200 years old.

A nicely carved jade pig done in the Han style.Pigs represent prosperity and jade pigs were were placed in the hands of the deceased. Many jade pigs were used for this purpose in later times and are sometimes mistaken for Han pieces. Size: L.10cm. H. 2.8cm. W. 2.3cm. Condition: No chips. Some calcification.

An exquisite vase decorated with crashing waves and plovers in blue by Seifu Yohei dating from the Taisho era. It is 12 inches (31 cm) tall and in excellent condition. Quite large for a work by Seifu, it is marked on the base with an incised signature...

This traditional Han child's silk hat is wonderfully embroidered with floral scenes around the brim, butterflies and birds around the sections of the crown, while tassels accentuate the upturned morterboard. The long draped wind protector section at the back shows fade line...otherwise the hat is in excellant condition.

This old Japanese hook would have been suspended over the hearth and used to hang cooking pots over the fire. Obviously carved by the original owner/user, this pothook or jizai kagi is heavily grooved from many years of use. The attached rope is probably a replacement to the original rope. It has been knotted into place for some years and I decided not to attempt to remove it.

A Chinese blue and white gu-shaped beaker vase, bearing the artemesia leaf mark within a double circle, decorated with a large foliate border and a band of stylized chrysanthemums; minor chip on base; 71/2" high.

Width from 6.2 to 6.5 Excellent condition, no chip, hairline, crack or restoration.

An unusual Meiji period bronze image of the jolly Daikoku-ten, one of the 7 gods of fortune, looking incredibly relaxed and content. His hat is removable to reveal a chamber for burning incense, and the smoke would be exhaled though his open mouth. It is 6-1/2 x 8 x 5-1/2 inches 16.5 x 20 x 14 cm) and is in overall fine, original condition. The artist chop is in a raised cartouche on the base and appears to read Yoshioka Minpo.

Fine Chinese Han Dynasty Painted Pottery Horse & Rider (206 BC - AD 8)

This fine and attractive pottery horse and rider was made over 2,000 years ago during the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 8). It is made from a dark grey pottery, quite "heavily-potted", that has been "cold painted" in a base coat of creamy-white pigment with the details mostly picked out in red and black pigments although there are also traces of pink and green pigments in places...

A Vietnamese blue and white porcelain jarlet. Painterly chrysanthemum blooms and leafage decoration freely rendered and with some oxidized, heaped cobalt. Fair to good condition: There are three points where old, hard wax has been applied presumably to smooth kiln faults and possible a small rim chip if not just another kiln fault (we don't like to restore items or interfere with old conservation.) Gold lacquer on wood lidded box, measuring 5 1/2" x 4 1/8" x 2 5/8" high, Meiji or late Edo era in Japan. The decoration is all in gold lacquer, (hiramaki-e or raised lacquer), with varying hues of gold, some in slightly greenish/silver, some more rose gold (birds), most in finely detailed clear gold. This is a medium-size Liao dynasty (907–1125A.D.) moulded polychrome earthenware plate with leaded glaze. It rests on a short foot rim, a flat everted base before rounding up. It has a simple floral motive. On the underside, the glaze is in dark olive green with the glaze flow stopped short at about just before the short foot rim exposing a light greyish white earthenware.

Lovely small paktong tray decorated with antiquities and auspicious symbols. Small repair to the enamel at 9 o'clock (left of the censer). Dimensions: 13,5 x 21 cm. Dates from the 19th century. Rare item.

An ornately worked, chased and engraved jug with dancing Burmese figures in repoussé. The handle in the form of an ogre. The spout might be a later addition, it is only silver plated. Base engraved "Moung Oung Myal 1875". No mark, silver tested. Condition: the ogre of the handle with a small loss, otherwise fine. Dimension: 11 cm high, weight: 382 g.

Beautiful Black Japanese silk kimono Uchikake (Wedding Gown): In Japan, there is a popular term that describes a very loving couple. They are called an Oshidori Couple. It must have come from seeing pairs tagging along so closely together near ponds or lakes. Many folk tales were told in different regions associating their affections for each other.
