This is a set of traditional lacquer bowls from Thailand. There is a single gold mythical animal, balu-gwin, at the bottom of the inside and a three balu-gwin spaced around the outside. The gold rim with key design surrounds the rim of each of the 5 bowls.

In wonderful condition, each bowl is approx 5 inches wide at the rim and 2.5 inches high.

An attractively carved okinomo, depicting three sparrows on a branch, made in Japan during the Meiji period (1868-1911) for export to Europe or the U.S. Condition very good. There is one crack which runs through the centre of the branch and finishes as a hairline on the first birds head. The ivory displays the usual age yellowing - most visible on the back view...

Description: A decent lotus-bud bowl from Jun kiln was in beautiful look. In a tint of the famous sky-blue glaze, the elegant bowl was shaped at the foot ring with regular wall. Developed with darkened colour which was caused by kiln firing, the unglazed foot ring was preserved with obvious burial earth. Light incursions of pinhead holes were found on the surface near the bottom. In the cavetto, the glaze was in milky-white blue when some residues were left for authentication...

Description; A rare Yaozhou plate was uniquely glazed and formed a star-like pattern. In a special glazing form, the ware was molded as an oval shallow basin. When the foot ring was shaped with steep wall, the bowl's surface was dipped in the white pigment first then was slipped with black glaze. It was then formed the star-like motif in the cavetto. This unusual pair of Chinese dolls were made with wire bodies covered with fabric padding and then silk clothing. Their heads, lower arms and feet are made from some kind of composition material and then painted. Because of their wire construction, their arms, legs, and bodies etc can be carefully repositioned. The feet are wired together to provide a more stable base...it is a theory which frankly does not always work well.

Description: An aigrette in stylized standing form was actually carved from a piece of natural root wood. In beautiful style, the aigrette twisted her neck when standing on a rock which was from another natural wood piece. As a traditional craftsmanship, this unique wood carving was in quite good size and would be an attractive display item in your house. Date: Qing Dynasty (late 19th century) Height: 51cm, Width: 40cm, Depth: 24cm.

Both sides of on this antique printing woodblock are hand carved with 3 pages of text on each side. The text is a poem about the moon. With the upper sections of each page in Chinese characters and the lower text in Mongolian, this is a rare and interesting artifact of the Qing Dynasty reign.

The woodblock is covered in ink from repeated use but the text is still crisp and clear. Measures 9 inches x 14 inches.

Description: An ancient green jade bracelet was excavated in very good condition. By a yellowish green tint, the bracelet was arch-shaped on the outer surface when the inner rim was flat. Manoeuvred obviously by artificial procedure, the bracelet was not in a strictly shaped round circle on the outer rim but left with unevenly shaped angles on the surface. In provincial jade quality, the jade stone was yet in greasy and warm feel when light incursions were kept within the patina...

Because the Japanese used a minimum of furniture and usually sat on the floor, frequently an arm rest, kyosoku, was used either singly or in pairs. This simple wooden Meiji period arm rest would have been appreciated for both its form and finish. The wood was first burned with hot coals and then scrapped with the result that the softer sections of wood would be carved out more deeply. This process would leave the "wavy" sculptural pattern on the surface of the wood.
