Miller (1918-) listed in askart as a Washington D.C. artist who moved to Taos, New Mexico, working from there after 1945, and a contemporary of Emil Bisttram. I purchased this in nearby Albuquerque, so it could well be that she is the art...

Very old small pencil drawing of a town scene, 3 1/2" by 3 5/8" (11 1/2" by 10" framed), unsigned, and the artist and origin unknown. It is simply an antique drawing. Someone thought enough of it to have a hand-drawn ornate mat on gray-blue paper. A church tower appears at center and a tree at left, and two tiny figures at lower right. There is a mysterious red circle stamped on the reverse; difficult to say if it may be a collector's stamp.

An original vintage Chinese ink painting of a Running Horse in the manner of Xu Beihong signed to the center right. Ink on a mottled colored paper presented matted and in a thin wood frame. Overall framed size 16.5" W x 23.5" H x 1.0" D. In good condition minor surface wear and very light crease to the paper. The most influential Chinese artist and art educator in twentieth-century China, Xu Beihong is widely known as the father of modern Chinese painting. Born into a poor family in 1895 in ...

Pastel on paper drawing of two female figures in black, possibly a mother and her daughter, 23 1/2" by 17 1/2", and narrow frame. I do not see a signature or date, though I believe the paper is likely from the 20th century. The drawing has not been properly framed (no mat) so there has been some contact with the glass. Also as the reverse washboard style rippling shows, there has been past moisture exposure which has caused deterioration of the paper's lower inches, and past exposure to a cor...

A group of 18 unframed pencil drawings, all landscape, signed by noted Southern California artist LEONARD SCHEU (1904-1995). The drawings are titled: Bridge Amsterdam; Roman Wall Tower of London 200 AD; Amsterdam; St. Peters, Salzburg; Amsterdam; Old House Schoenwald Germany; Quebec; Bern (Switzerland); Cathedral Door Granada; Victoria (Canada). Evidently, the artist was an avid traveler. The American-looking scenes, featuring imagery of buildings and trees, are untitled, and comprise five of...

Watercolor and ink drawing of a stone house adjacent to a dirt road on which a horse is pulling a buggy, a split rail fence, trees and a cow completing this bucolic scene of times gone by, the art in an oval, vignette style, the painted area 5" by 6 1/2", 13 1/2" by 15" in modern framing, possibly signed at lower left but definitely dated there either 32 or 34. This is a very, very early drawing. I purchased it in Maine, where a dealer had affixed a label attributing it to Pennsylvania artist ...

This one is hard to describe....but I will start somewhere. It is an oil on canvas work, unframed, 24" by 24", with no signature on the front, and only "SARAH W." on the overlap giving any possible indication as to who painted this. A green eye within a triangular window in to a human face stares at the viewer, Magritte-like, as the face of a young black child stares from the lower right corner, as a complex pair of intertwined figures at lower left make for arresting and dream-like imagery. ...

By the listed South African modern artist STANLEY NKOSI (1945-1988) is this PAIR of charcoal on paper drawings celebrating the nobility of manual laborers, identically framed in silvery metal, the drawings measuring 22 1/2" by 17 1/2", both signed at bottom and dated there "73". Nkosi was an interesting figure. Born in Natal he moved to Dukathole near Germiston in the Transvaal (now Gauteng). In 1962 he moved to Johannesburg and studied briefly with established artist Cecil Skotnes, and for ...
