This beautiful textile was made by Pashtun nomadic tribeswomen of Hazarajat. It measures 52 x 65 cm without the fringes (57 x 71 cm including the fringes). This is a beautiful small cloisonne vase decorated with with 7 butterflies of different sizes. Stands 4 3/4 inches tall. It is stamped Japan on base so it was probably made sometime between 1920& 1930. The enamel colors and style look like a few Ando pieces we have had from this time period. Condition is excellent with just wear to the rim coatings

Depicting delicate motifs in somber, predominantly blue-black combined with discrete touches of rusty red, this textile from the Savu Islands of eastern Indonesia is called a selindang. The shawls are worn by women over their shoulders, to complete their sarong attire. This textile is estimated to date to the late 20th century and is constructed by warp ikat, warp-faced, with fringes. It measures 71 x 191 cm and is in perfect condition. The dye is a natural indigo.

This child's dress front in cross stich from central Afghanistan dates to the mid to late 20th century. It measures 11¾ x 18 inches (29.8 x 45.7 cm). Traditional Hazara pieces (the smallest ethnic minority group of Afghanistan), like Pashtun pieces, have a yoke under the neckline from which gathered, long panels of fabric flow. This mid 20th century carved wood netsuke is 1 7/8” high, 1 ½” wide and 7/8” thick. It depicts two playful mice resting on a small flat basket. The mouse on the top is chewing the tail of the other one and the one on the bottom is fighting back by biting the other one’s back leg. It is signed but is not legible. The carving is very nice and it is in great condition.

This is a child's helmet ("khohl") from Kohistan, an isolated mountainous region of northern Pakistan located on the river Indus. Metal zippers, white beaded fringes, silver pendants and mirrored discs all serve to guard against the djinn, or evil spirits. The helmet has a high peaked crown supported by inserted sticks of wood, and topped with a beaded tassel. This is a shepherd's wool coat from upper Chitral or Nuristan, depicting the branched "ram's horn" and tree of life designs reminiscent of the woollen garments and felts of central Asia. A large intricately carved and pierced Chinese soapstone censer. This censer features 3 large foo dogs: two foo dogs at the top of the body with a foo dog removable finial or lid. Three small foo dogs frolic under the 2 larger dogs. The base is a very dark brown, hand carved and not removable. In excellent condition, the censer, as pictured in photo 1, measures 11 inches x 11" x 2.25".

A masterpiece by one of Japan's preeminent artists, Seiko Sawada b.1894-1988. This signed piece was executed out of keyaki wood in his younger days in the 1930's depicts Ebisu, one of the seven lucky gods, riding a fish and a wave spouting out of the fish's mouth. Daikoku, the god of abundance, is riding his treasure bag holding his hammer of magic. The Sawada Museum is in Atami, Shizuoka. Sawada was awarded the Order of Merit in the 1970's.

Very rare bronze quiver with four arrows, (their heads made of iron and shafts made of bamboo). The quiver is nicely decorated with geometric designs in relief and leather covers, with a nice reddish-green patina on the bronze. A wondreful Chinese wood panel with three goats, an auspicious symbol of peace, harmony and good fortune. The panel was painted with red lacquer and then gold gilt was applied. As a decorative piece it would look great over hung over a doorway or above a large painting. In very good condition, it measures just short of 24 inches long by 7 3/4" high.

Large peach-shaped bowl decorated on in- and outside with a bold Rinpa design of flowering red, white and blue camellias and leaves. Over a cream-colored coarse stoneware a thin layer of cream-colored slip has been applied, on top of which overglaze blue, black, green, red, white enamels and gold.

Small rectangular box and cover. The box is made of wood covered in a thin layer of clear lacquer on outside and inside. The top of the cover is decorated on the outside with the two circles (mon). One is filled with a gohei (ceremonial wand with paper streamers), the other with an open and closed umbrella in kiji makie technique (applying makie lacquer decoration to natural wood). A hexagonal faceted gourd shaped vase decorated in a style not often found in traditional Kutani ware, but more so in traditional Japanese kinrande style porcelains. The vase is decorated in auspicious motifs. The top area of the gourd contains stylized characters of the word, "eternal longevity".Age: Showa Period Size: Diameter 7" Height 11.5"

Massive Korean rectangular form scholar’s inkstone with removable cover carved in high relief with a stylized dragon. The base has a central sloped rectangular inkwell bordered with two opposing dragons chasing a flaming pearl. The flat bottom is carved with low arches at the center of the four sides to form wide feet at the corners. 11 3/4" long x 8 1/4" wide x 3 7/8" high. Probably dates from the mid-20th century. A very rare feature is that the ancestor is also wearing a Christian cross at the end of a long necklace. Indonesia, Flores Island. Height: 8 7/16" (21,5 cm). Old accident, restored locally, at the junction between the spoon and the handle, tiny chips, otherwise good condition. A truly rare piece.
