Japanese vintage obi with a mid-century modern flair, decorated on one side in bright yellow with orange and lime green dots accenting the points of a raised weave geometric star-patterned background. The orange reverse side holds the same raised weave pattern. Probably dates from the mid-20th century or slightly later. 135” long x 5 7/8” wide. Excellent, like new condition.

She is widely loved for her female empowering works, many of which are currently part of the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and more. Satsuki was from Kyoto, the most famous pupil of Tomioka Tessai, early C20. This painting is beautifully painted with black and plum colours, perfectly combining strength and delicacy in the technique and in the subject matter. A Fukagawa Seiji 9-3/4" tree peony Japan porcelain vase from the 1900-20 era. This large and wonderful high-quality Japanese porcelain vase has orange and blue tree peony flowers with yellow and white applied jewelling and gold highlights. It is in a myriad of blue colours with subtle gradations and shading and it has a gold rim and gold leaf veins. It has the Mt. Fuji mark used from 1900-20 and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, losses, damage or repairs...

Japanese limited edition sosaku hanga “kappa-ban” (stencil print) on crumpled hand-made momigami paper by Sadao Watanabe (1913-1996) titled “Entry into Jerusalem” depicting Christ on a donkey riding over a flower strewn path and surrounded by a crowd of followers. Set against a light grey background. The print is signed and dated 1978 at the lower right and numbered 17/70 at the lower left, all in black ink. The paper measures about 27”V x 21”H (22 ½” unfolded)...

A vibrant Lakai embroidered textile ("ilgitsh") from northern Afghanistan, measuring 56.9 cm x 58.4 cm including fringes. Romanian couching in silk thread on a deep red cotton ground, with bordering in cross stitch. Approximate age mid 20th century. The Lakai are an Uzbek tribe of horse breeders who came to Afghanistan from the steppes after the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia to settle around the northern towns of Balkh and Kunduz.

This is a pair of vintage Uzbek tent or yurt decorative hangings from Northern Afghanistan, mid to late 20th century. Each piece measures 11.43 cm x 63.5 cm. Decorative hangings such as this are usually suspended at the entrance of a yurt, and sometimes placed between piled up quilts. Solid embroidery in cross stitch in cotton thread, ending in wrapped, beaded cords with metallic trinkets.

Japanese cigarette case, damascened with silver and gold on steel, c 1930's. Decoration in Komai style of a temple gate, pagodas and Mt Fuji. The back with a Fukui mark under butterfly and 24K. In addition two marks resembling stylized birds’ wings on a sgraffito ground. Width "3 ¾ / 9,2 cm, height "3 ¼ / 8,2 cm. Condition: some wear to the black surface, otherwise fine (cf pics).

A very typical figure from the remote Karnali area showing a so called "Protector" coated with white mineral pigment (Seto mato) mostly on the front side. The figure is in the standing position and was obviously kept inside. This kind of figures are associated with animist cult of protection of house or village. Japanese framed print signed by artist known as Ay-O 靉嘔(1931-present). His full name is Takao Iijim, a prominent member of the Fluxus artist movement since its beginning.

Fluxus is described "the most radical and experimental art movement of the sixties".

Ay-O represented Japan at the Venice Biennale in 1966 and at the São Paulo Biennale in 1971. He also built the famed "Tactile Rainbow" at the Osaka World's Fair in 1970...

Japanese Earthenware Studio Vase, with dripping oily glaze, maybe Seto ware, 9 3/4" high, 4 1/2" diameter-top rim, 4 1/4" diameter-bottom rim, oily drippy glaze applied just over half way down, rest of glaze is chestnut brown color. Lots of glare in the photographs. The condition is good, no damages.

Unique Chinese yixing teapot with rondels of marbled clay surrounding the teapot and on the cover. The spout and the handle are modelled in a bamboo design with a pig finial on the lid. There is a four character impressed mark on the base, as well as a different four character impressed mark on the underside of the lid.

Age: Purchased as an antique teapot. Actual age is not known

A pair of Chinese porcelain sancai glazed models of Pheonix with each perched upon a flowering tree trunk. These Chinese porcelain figures of birds are typical of the examples made for export to the West during the latter part of the 19th century or into the 20th century, influenced by Ming pieces with sancai or three color glazes.
