A sepik river, Papua New Guinea mask consisting of the carapace of a tortoise decorated with cowrie shells, boars tusks and bird of paradise feathers. This item was probably made during the 1970s. Condition - very good - no losses. 9 inches (23cm) High x 7 inches (18cm) wide - excluding feathers.

A rare and exceptionally large and imposing 1930s Bourne Denby stoneware vase with styalised art deco cloud decoration. This item is in very good condition with no damages and no restoration. 36cm(14.2 inches)high and 23.5cm(9.3 inches)across at the widest point.

A very rare wood and pewter bar caraffe or decanter with glass thermos liner and Swiss made musical movement which plays "The Blue Danube" by Johann Strauss. This item was designed by Aldo Tura for Macabo of Milan, Northern Italy, and made circa 1958. Condition: excellent - there is a little rusting to the movement which is in good working condition; there are no damages and no repairs or restoration. 32cm (12.6 inches) high.

A good Australian Aboriginal bark painting of a spirit figure. This item was acquired 'second hand' in the UK in the 1990s and was probably painted during the 1980s. Condition there is wear and losses to the paint. 16 inches (41cm) high, 9.5 inches (24cm) wide.

An original and probably unique terracotta blacksmith by Royal Doulton figure modeller - Peggy Davies who, in her early years, was an assistant to Clarice Cliff. This item was probably made circa 1955 - 1960 and carries an incised signature on the base. Condition - the hammer is missing from the right hand as is a piece of the iron held in his left hand. There are surface marks which we have not tried to clean. There are no cracks and no restoration. Height - 24cm (9.5 inches).

Peggy Davies 陶制模型-打铁匠-有署名

A large hand, worked silver, ring set with semi-precious stones, made in Tibet during the first half of the 20th Century.
Condition: there is much age surface wear; one of the small turquoise stones is missing and some of the original traditional black wax covering the silver has been recently scratched off.
Weight: 13 grams (0.45 oz).

A heavy hammered copper box with domed top, fitted wood interior and applied (overlaid and inlaid) silver decoration. We understand that the Arabic inscription is descriptive of the box's function (for holding cigarettes). This item was made in Egypt during the first half of the 20th Century. A delicately modelled hand painted figure group made by the Herend Porcelain Manufactory, Hungary, during the 1950s or the 1960s. Condition: excellent - no losses and no restoration. 19cm (7.5 inches) high; 14cm (5.5 inches) across.

A rare early 20th Century red 'aventurine' glass Dachshund, with gold leaf inclusions, made on the island of Murano, Italy circa 1930 - 1950. Condition: excellent. 13.5cm (5.3 inches) long.

A black and white Aboriginal subject earthenware dish or wall plaque, made circa 1965, by Studio Anna, Australia. condition - there are small under-rim chips and there is a crackled glaze to the reverse; no repairs or restoration. 24.5cm (9.7inches) diameter.

An extremely finely and delicately painted eggshell porcelain bowl by Wang Yijun. The poem on the reverse side reads "Wen ji qi wu xiang feng nian, fu gui rong hua ren ping an. Wang Yijun zuo" which can translate as "Practice the sword while hearing roosters (meaning work hard) and enjoy the affluence of the year; wish people wealth, prosperity and safety. Made by Wang Yijun"The seal mark to the base reads "Jingdezhen Zuo" - Made in Jingdezhen. Wang Yijun (1904 - 1989)was born in Anhui, China. A student of Wu Ai in his early years, he specialised in “flowers and birds” painting. He adapted Lang Shining’s style, with a touch of traditional famille rose technique. His works are usually delicate and vivid, with the elegance of the court school. In 1959 Wang Yijun was conferred the title “Ceramic Artist” by the Jingdezhen Municipal Government. In 2011, the late artist was given the Official award of “China’s Master of Ceramic Art”. A rare circular table with fine Islamic style geometric ivory, wood and mother of pearl marquetry inlay. This item was made, in art deco style, in Syria in the 1920s or 1930s. An early 20th Century Zisha ("purple clay") teapot with famille rose enamelled decoration depicting the "Three Friends of Winter" - prunus (plumb) blossom, pine tree and bamboo - and also a single bat. This item was made in Yixing, Zhejiang province, China during the Republic period (1911-1949). The maker's or shop seal mark inside the cover reads "Rong Ji"; the elaborate seal mark on the base reads "Fu Kang Ying Kou". Ying Kou is a town in Liao Ning province, north east China. Condition: very good - there are no damages other than a minute chip to the cover (please view enlargement 7) . There has been no restoration. 16.5cm (6.5inches) long; 9cm (3.5inches) high. A very rare Lalique glass "le Heure Bleue" Eau de Cologne bottle produced by Guerlain, Paris, circa 1914. Condition: excellent - no damages and with some of its original 'perfume'. 16.5cm (6.5 inches) high.

A rare and very finely decorated Chinese porcelain vase depicting a flowering peony shrub painted with fencai/famille rose enamels.

On the base is the iron red four character mark "Shen de tang zhi" -the "Hall for the Cultivation of Virtue" which was located in the Old Summer Palace, the Yuanmingyuan, which was destroyed by European troops in 1860. The mark was used during the Kangxi and Daoguang reigns and also during the Republic period (1912-1948) when we believe this vase was made.

Condition - there is a faint star crack (please view enlargements 11 & 12) - no further damages and no restoration.

A rare 1920s Bursley ware vase inspired by Islamic 16th Century Turkish Iznik ceramic style and belonging to the 'Bagdad' range. This design is attributed to Frederick Rhead. Condition - excellent. No chips, cracks or restoration. 18.5cm (7.25cm) high.

A rare carved bone abacus with integral reverse glass painting depicting four boys, in a garden setting, peering into a large fish bowl. There is an added inscritpion carved into one side recording that this item was given as a gift in Hong Kong in 1953. Condition; very good - no damages or losses. 11.5cm (4.5 inches) long; 5.5cm (2.2 inches) wide; 1.5cm deep.

A heavy well cast 'bronze' figure, in traditional Benin ceremonial coral beaded costume and headress, probably made in Nigeria during the early to mid 20th Century. Condition: excellent. An "ogee" shaped porcelain bowl decorated with polychrome 'famille rose' enamels depicting two pheasants amongst flowering peony and pomegranate branches and below a band of alternating lotus flowers and the eight Buddhist emblems, the Bajixiang. The seal mark to the base reads "Zhong Hua Min Guo" (Republic of China), dating it to the period 1911-1949. Condition: there are rim frits / chips and there is a light 1cm hairline to the rim ; no further damages and no restoration. 14cm (5.5inches) diameter; 5.9cm (2.3inches) high. A richly patinated carved wood figure of a seated drum playing musician. This item was made in Bali, circa 1900-1940, during the first half of the 20th Century. Condition - very good - there is a small chip to the head-dress (please view enlargement 11) - no further damage and no repairs. 18cm (7 inches) wide; 32cm (12.5 inches) high.

A large papier mache lacquered plaque or tray made for export or sale to foreigners during the early 20th Century. This raised relief design incorporating the "Satsuma cross" motif is very common on low grade tea and coffee sets made in vast quantities for export during the 1920s and 1930s. It is unusual to see this brocade style pattern depicted in this medium. Condition - good. There are two old screw holes in the back, age related "crazing" to the surface, substantial wear to the rim and there is an old repair to the bottom edge ( please see enlargement 2) there has been no restoration. 15.5 inches (39cm) diameter.

萨摩烧风格人物漆盘 约1900-1940

A small "garlic necked" vase attractively painted with fencai enamels in 18th Century style depicting mountains and pavillions in a river landscape. The base carries a four character iron red hall mark. This item was probably made circa 1920 - 1940 during the Republic period. Condition - there is a tiny chip to the rim with associated 2cm hairline. No further damages and no restoration. 5.5 inches (14cm) high.

A small delicately enamelled bottle vase painted in 18th Century Qianlong style. The base carries the four character mark of the Qianlong emperor (1736 - 1795) but this item was probably made during the 1930s in the Republic period. Condition - there is an old glued repair to the neck. 10cm (3.9 inches) high

A small Paktong Ink Box made in China during the Republic period (1912-1949) or earlier. The copper base bears a maker's or retailer's mark which, unfortunately, is too worn for us to read. Condition - wear to the base, consistent with many years of use, otherwise very good. 4.4cm (1.75ins) long; 3.2cm (1.25ins) wide; 2cm (0.8ins) deep.

A small Chinese porcelain vase delicately painted in fencai / famille rose enamels with a scene depicting two ladies on a river bank washing silk. The base carries an iron red four character Qianlong (1736 - 1795) reign mark but this vase was made later, in the early 20th Century, during the Republic period. Condition: excellent - no damages and no restoration. 12.5cm (5 inches) high.

An unusually large "Ivory" coloured moulded Bakelite (Urea Formaldehyde) wall plaque designed by William McMillan RA. These plaques were manufactured by De la Rue Plastics and were presented by the War Office to local Savings Committees in appreciation of their success in "Salute the Soldier Week" in 1944. Some are still to be found in public buidigs throughout the U.K.. For a similar commemmorative wall plaque please view cat. no. EPH 4622 in the collection of the Imperial War Museum, London. Condition: exceptionally good - one small 1.5cm production flaw to the left of the rifle but not visible on the reverse. 58cm (22.8 inches) high; 35cm (13.75 inches) wide.

A trinket box made from Bog Oak - a partially fossilized wood formed as a result of immersion in Irish peat bogs for approximately 5000 years. The wood has been turned and finely carved with Shamrock leaves and a central Trinity Harp and was made in Ireland in the second half of the 19th Century during the reign of Queen Victoria. Condition: excellent - no damages or losses. 7.5cm (3 inches) diameter; 6cm (2.3 inches) high.

A thickly potted heavy dish profusely decorated in early 19th Century style with Famille Rose enamels. This item was made in China in the early 20th Century , possibly for the Malaysian market, during the Republic period (1912-1949). Condition - very good - there is wear to the gilding but no chips, cracks or restoration. 28.8cm (11.4inches) diameter; weight 1.2kg (2lbs11oz).

A bowl, made in imitation of late Qing Imperial style, with two roundels - one depicting a five clawed Dragon and the other a Phoenix - both separated by two iron red bats and above stylized breaking waves. The base carries what is probably the factory mark which, in Pinyin, reads "Jiu Jiang Hui Kang Chu Pin". This item was made in China in the 1940s during the late Republic period. For a dated bowl, with similar decoration, please view item # 1149532 (stock # 789) in our catalogue. Condition - very good - no damages and no restoration. 12cm (4.5ins) diameter.

A large bottle vase painted in Qianjiang style with eight fishes swimming amongst aquatic plants. On one side is a poem which reads "A fisherman I am not, using brush as fishing rod. Casually sketch a few fishes, then look into the painting on the pot. Winter of Ji Si year (1929). Tie Jian Zi Deng Bishan painted at Zhu Shan Mountain." On the base is the seal mark "Bishan". Deng Bishan was one of a very famous group of artists known as The Eight Friends. We believe that this item was made during the Republic period but we do not think it was painted by the hand of Deng Bishan . Condition - very good - there is an old hairline just above the base (please view enlargement 8); no further damages and no restoration. 40cm high.

一件浅绛彩风格的鱼藻图长颈瓶。一边有诗云：“自知不是烟波客，握笔胡为作钓竿。信手挥成鱼数尾，教君应向画中看。己巳年冬月铁肩子邓碧珊作于珠山。”瓶底有“碧珊”款。邓碧珊为珠山八友之一。我们认为此件虽作于民国，但非出自邓碧珊之手。
品相：很好。底部圈足上有冲缝（见图8），无其他损伤或修复。高40厘米。

A rare carved boxwood figure of a barefoot peasant girl holding a scythe and a sheaf of corn made in China, circa 1968 to 1970, during the Cultural Revolution period. Condition - excellent - no damages and no restoration. 15cm (6 inches) high.

An earthenware terracotta bottle vase and stopper. The vase is decorated with transfer printed "famille rose" enamels depicting flowers birds and marine life. This item was made by Watcombe pottery, Torquay, which was operational from 1869 to 1883. The base carries the impressed date mark for October 1878. Condition - very good - there is a small chip to the footrim (please view enlargements) and a tiny chip to the underside of the cover; there are also minor losses to the enamels. 31cm (12 inches) high.

A set of four wine cups individually painted in traditional Chinese landscape style and each bearing the verse "Xin Kuan Wang Di Zhia" which translates directly as "Heart Broad Forget Ground Narrow". The bases carry the iron red four character reign mark of the Hongxian 'emperor' (1916) but these items were probably made later, during the Republic Period, circa 1917-1949. Condition - excellent - no damages and no restoration. 4.5cm (1.75 inches) high; 6.3cm (2.3 inches) diameter.

This item was probably made, circa 1950-1975, during the third quarter of the 20th Century. A Chinese porcelain censer with cover brightly painted in late 18th Century Qianlong/Jiaqing style. The base carries the four character iron red reign mark of the Qianlong emperor (1736-1795) but this item was made later during either the 19th or 20th Century. Condition - very good - there are two minor breaks to the ribbon surrounding the "lion" on the cover (please see enlargement 4) - no further damages and no restoration.

A finely crafted pumpkin shaped Zisha clay Yixing stoneware teapot decorated on one side with applied pumpkin vine decoration. This item carries three seal marks which all bear the name Shi Yu Zhen. Condition: excellent - no chips or cracks and no restoration. A large bright, hand painted, matt glazed Art Deco vase made in the Plateelba Zuid-Holland (PZH) factory, Gouda, in the Netherlands. This item carries the date mark for 1932. Condition: Excellent - no damages and no repairs or restoration. 30cm (12inches) high; 16cm (6.3inches) diameter.

A large,heavy, Indigo "Hooped" vase ( Whitefriars pat. no. 9680) designed by Geoffrey Baxter and produced by Whitefriars Glass in this colour in 1967 only. A large, heavy, green glazed stoneware vase made by Trevor Corser at Leach Pottery, St Ives, Cornwall. Condition: excellent - no damages and no restoration. 27cm (10.5 inches) high. Weight: 3.5 kg (7lb 11.5oz)

A rare Mahogany table with deeply carved traditional West African style geometric decoration and with elegant stylized antelope form legs. The European shape and African decoration suggests that this item was made for European clients during the Colonial period, is probably Igbo from eastern Nigeria, and was possibly exported to the UK in the 1950s or 1960s during the period of transition to Independence. A very finely painted fencai/famille rose enamelled teapot.The poem on the reverse side reads - "fang sheng chi jia; xiang qin xiu pi" which can be translated - "Fragrance (of tea)formed between teeth and cheeks; the scent (of the tea) deeply affects heart and spleen (refreshes one deeply)". It is signed "nie xing she zou" - "made by Nie Xing Sheng" (b.1909; d.1981) - active 1916-1981. The base mark reads Jiang Xi Mei Shu Ci Chang - "Jiangxi Art Porcelain Factory". This item was made during the Republic Period (1912-1949), probably circa 1945. Condition - excellent - no wear, damage or restoration. 15cm (6 inches) long; 8.5cm (3.3 inches) high.

A very finely painted porcelain plaque - "Wu Song Da Hu" painted in the style of Liu Ji You - illustrating one of the stories from "The Water Margin" depicting the famous scene where the folk hero Wu Song kills the tiger which has been terrorizing the local population. The painting carries a cyclical dating for Spring 1979. Condition - excellent - no damages and no restoration. 37cm (14.5inches) x 24.5cm(9.7inches) including wood frame.

A very rare pair of hand guards or constructed from a course woven fibre each incorporating three rows of shark's teeth secured with a fine hand made string or cord. These 'gloves' were made on the Gilbert Islands (now Kiribati) probably during the first half of the 20th Century. Condition: excellent - the fibre is frayed in places but apparently no damages or losses. There is old dried mud or soil on the outer surface of each. Extended length: 40cm Finger loops: 4cm long. Back of hand 'guard': 11cm (4.25 inches) square.

A small Paktong Ink Box with engraved landscape decoration, made in China during the Republic period (1912-1949) or earlier. The copper base bears a shop or retailer's mark which reads "Yong Fa Chang". Condition - there are small surface bumps and marks (please view enlargements) and there is wear to the base. 4.4cm (1.75ins) square; 2.4cm (0.9ins) deep.

A well cast Art Deco bronze figure of an African warrior designed by Austrian sculptor Franz Hagenauer and made circa 1930-1950. Condition: excellent - no damages or repairs and with original paint in unretouched condition. Bronze: 12.5cm (4.9inches) high; length 19cm (7.5inches)

A silver mounted Skean Dhu (Sgian-Dubh) with carved horn handle and snakeskin leather sheath made by leading Edinburgh Silversmith Robert Allison and assayed in Glasgow in 1952. Condition: excellent. 20cm (7.8 inches) long.

A stainless steel "Campden" candelabrum designed by award winning silversmith and industrial designer Robert Welch for Old Hall and manufactured circa 1957. Condition: excellent with very little sign of wear and original teak wood feet still intact. 23.2cm (9.1inches) high.

A very sensitively carved Madonna and Child made in the South Tyrol region of northern Italy, probably during the 1920s. Condition: there are very minor edge losses and there is a small, old, glued repair to the base. There has been no overpainting and it has an excellent old patina. A Ruskin pottery vase by William Howson Taylor typically copying a Chinese Song dynasty shape. It has a purplish pink lustre "souffle" glaze and on the base is the impressed date 1931. Condition - excellent - no damages and no restoration. 11cm (4.3 inches) high.

A rare "famille rose" dragon and phoenix decorated bowl with an inscription dedicating it as a 60th birthday gift from Ma Tao Yu to Xiong Gong - otherwise known as Chen Zhao Ying (1888-1977), who was a senior military leader of the Guo Min-dang (Kuomintang) between the years 1911 to 1932 and who was very close to Sun Zhong-shan and Jiǎng Jièshí (Chiang Kai-shek). From 1944 to 1948, Chen Zhao Ying was the chief of the Jiangxi Province Guo Min-dang Party committee and the minister of Audit for Anhui and Jiangxi Provinces. The bowl, dedicated as an advance birthday gift, is dated Autumn, 1946. Condition - excellent - no damages and no restoration. 12.4cm (4.8 inches) diameter. 1946年 民国 龙凤团纹祝寿碗 一件粉彩龙凤团纹祝寿碗。为一名为马陶余的同乡晚辈送与时任皖赣监察使的陈肇英60大寿之礼。上书：“雄公监察使六秩华诞誌庆”、“寿世寿心”、“乡晚马陶余敬献——丙戌年秋月“。 品相：完好。无损伤，无修复。直径12.4厘米。 注：陈 肇英(1888—1977)，字雄夫，浙江浦江古塘村人。浙江省浦江县中山中学创办人。 辛亥革命时，参加浙联军光复南京战役。1916年，发动浙江独立，反对袁世凯和浙江都督朱瑞，并赴上海见孙中山。1918年，通电拥护西南护法政府，任援 闽浙军第一师中将师长兼前敌总指挥。次年，与蒋介石结为把兄弟。1922年，任以孙中山为非常大总统的护法政府参谋。1926年1月，被选为中国国民党第 二届中央执行委员会候补委员。蒋介石四一二反革命政变后，递补为国民党中央执行委员，连任至第六届。1928年起，任国民政府立法院立法委员，后兼立法院 军事委员会委员长。1934—1942年间，任闽浙监察使。1935年起，兼任中国国民党福建省党部主任委员。1944年，改任中国国民党江西省党部主任 委员、皖赣监察使。1948年任监察院监察委员。1949年6月去台湾，曾兼任中国国民党中央纪律委员会委员、中央评议委员等。著有《八十自述》。
