Serene yuteki temmoku conical chawan made in the Chinese taste, though Japanese. The chocolaty oil spots float on the darker iron glaze as if suspended, or frozen in motion. The clay is a a fine buff stoneware and the kodai, foot is well tooled. The chawan is signed, but has not been read, though it is a fine bowl. It has many similarities to Kimura Morikazu, Kamada Koji and Taniguchi Ryozo.

This chawan is in great condition, however there is a minute gold lacquer repair on the lip, the si...

Obviously a well conceived form, this box was made by the son of legendary Mashiko potter, Sakuma Totaro, Sakuma Kenji.. The form, finish, lid and foot can easily lead to the Mashiko style and Sakuma in particular. All in all a very well conceived piece by the son of a pottery legend.

The box and lead measures approximately 3.76" tall, 5" long and 4.25" wide. Unbo...

Earthy Mashiko henko by internationally known potter, hamada Shinsaku. Learning about pottery from his father, Hamada Shoji, Shinsaku has mastered the essence of Mashiko pottery as seen in this very fine, exhibition quality henko bottle with rich tessha glaze over a clear glaze with areas of a deep blue-green enamel punctuating the design of one side. This piece would be an exceptional addition to any collection that is interested in modern pottery, Mashiko or Hamada Shoji.

Rich, almost volcanic deep red Shino chawan by multi-talented potter, Matsuzaki Ken. This large chawan has a tremendous amount of character and movement with a surface that resembles the Enbu work of Yamada Kazu though made before it was premiered. The thick, unctuous surface has a wonderful feel in the hand and is potently juxtaposed against the crimson red of the base glaze. This is a rather exhilarating bowl at a fraction of his contemporaries and his gallery prices.

Please note, there ...
