A Japanese sword "menuki" of 3 sparrows that was converted into an obidome during the Taisho period. The bronze color of the metal gives a naturalistic brown coloration to the birds--their beaks, eyes and feet are highlighted in gold. The fitted back is in 9 karat gold. Age: Menuki 18th century.
Massive Japanese Taisho period bronze jardinière cast with four lobes in high relief with chidori (Japanese sparrows) perched on or flying among flowering cherry branches. A lappet band extends around the circumference where the top of the incurving shoulder meets the short, straight neck with everted rim. The ovoid form body rests on a splayed base. Incredible Japanese highly bronze figure of three playful puppies. One falling onto his back, another laying in the middle and the last one climbing over him. They are all very finely detailed. The artist's signature on the bottom of the middle puppy. Very well done with exquisite detail.

An Early Japanese Bronze Mirror, Kagami, Circa 1600. (No.1)
This bronze mirror (kagami) was almost certainly made in the Momoyama period. It has a turtle (minogame) as a central boss, pierced for a cord. It also features a pair of cranes, their beaks touching the head of the turtle as in the act of kissing. This beneath a splendid pine tree. Under the turtle is found the inscription 'Tenjō' (?) possibly meaning Heaven.

Rather unusual 19th century Japanese bronze box for use in the incense game, when the player was blindfolded and given an incense to identify. Three cutouts on the top are made in a shape of paulownia crest used by the Tokugawa Shogun family. The paulownia crest was Imperial and represented the Emperor, but it could be bestowed on someone whose service to the throne was most important. Shoguns Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi were using it before Tokugawa...

A Japanese Bronze mirror of circular form decorated with Chrysanthemum Sprays a pair of Cranes, Tsuru, in flight, a circular ring and a central Turtle, Kame, shaped boss. Probably late Kamakura or Nambokucho in date, first half of the fourteenth century.
The mirror measures approximately 11.45cm in diameter, and 0.76cm high at the rim, and the edge measures 5.1mm in width, and weighs 273 grams. See images for condition, wear commensurate with its age...
