An Arita Export porcelain plate in Dutch ‘Kraak’ style. A plate with the same border is illustrated in the Impey Collection “Japanese Export Porcelain, Catalogue of the collection of the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. Hotei Publishing, Amsterdam, 2002”, item 12. The border pattern shows a striking similarity to that used for V.O.C. orders produced at the Hikeoba and Sarugawa kilns. Circa 1680.

The shallow dish with a roundel containing a very finely painted coiled dragon, Danryū mon, within a double circle. The cavetto is decorated with a stenciled trellis or Chinese lie-wen design against a pale ruri background. Within the foot-rim is found an apocryphal Chinese Ming Chenghua reign mark.

Early 20th C Japanese glazed porcelain figure of a puppy, most likely an akita. The puppy is wearing a ruffled collar with bells. If you hold this piece under a bright light, you can see some surface crazing that occurred after firing during the cooling process, which attests to its age. In excellent condition, it measures 5.5" high, 3.5" wide, 4.5" deep.

A high quality Arita porcelain dish decorated with an auspicious pattern composed of a central motif made up of three shippo or cash symbols bound together by a stylised Peony leaf vine; a variant of the more usual ribbon tied cash see EW3193. The cavetto decorated with a Tako-karakusa ground and the rim with a diaper band. The reverse is meticulously painted with a band of stylised lotus pattern to the base of the footrim...

An unusual Arita dish of typical scalloped rinka form decorated with a variant of the so-called “Sweet Pea” pattern. A Chinese export pattern largely produced for the South East Asian Market and in particular for Chinese communities living there. This dish was probably made for the Japanese domestic market as a novelty, or it may possibly have been made for the Asian export Market. The elaborate vine arabesque is painted in pencilled style. Antique Japanese round porcelain plate decorated with blue underglaze scene of two fish and underwater plants. The plate stands on a round foot and the underside is decorated with rings and scrolling flora in blue underglaze. A small gold kintsugi repair and kiri tomobako are evidence that this was a valuable and prized part of someone's collection years ago.

Antique Japanese studio ware porcelain vase, carved all over with a raised design of a dragon in swirling clouds over churning waves. The clouds are covered with a glaze that gradates from a deep blue at the top to a light blue where they meet the waves. Both the dragon and the waves are kept white with a very pale light pink glaze on the dragon's flames. A band of repeating lingzhi pattern in blue underglaze encircles the rim and foot of the vase...

A Japanese studio porcelain okimono of Daruma (the legendary Chinese Buddhist monk Bodhidharma), dating to the first half of the 20th C. The long robe with thick celadon glaze, the face with fierce expression, the ears with movable earrings. Base with sealmark. Condition: fine, one ear with firing crack. Dimension: 22.8 cm high, weight: 1.2 kg.

19th century Edo period (before 1867) Japanese porcelain Hirado plate with scalloped edge and underglaze blue decoration of a dragon in pursuit of a tama (Sacred Gem). Excellent potting, milky white body and clear glaze. Great early painting with charming freedom, wonderful dynamic design - see the flames issuing from the body of the dragon. Some surface wear as to be expected, overall in great condition. Diameter 7 1/4 inches.

A Japanese white glazed studio porcelain model of a water buffalo. Hirado type though the eyes are not left unglazed to the biscuit as is typical. Holding sculpted form and details well, the biscuit base smooth to the touch and bearing an imprint from the fabric it sat upon. Except for a clean break to one horn, in otherwise good condiiton. A line of separation of the glaze under the buffalo's neck due to "crawling" in the kiln. Length, about 14 inches horn tip to tail. Wood plinth about 13 5/8 ...

Chrysanthemum theme repeating on the rim, through the column, the base, and in decorative embellishment depicting the stems and leaves in blue and the finely detailed blossoms in white. There is small chipping throughout - on the rim of one holder and in the finely detailed stems and blossoms on each. Offered in as found condition. Height of each about 6 inches (15.24 cm)

A good Arita moulded foliate rimmed dish decorated in an Imari three colour style with a central motif of entwined Pine, Plum and Bamboo branches with a wide border containing Chrysanthemum’s and Irises and Peonies growing from stylised rockwork.
