A fine gourd-shaped bottle decorated in Chinese Transitional style. Arita 1660 – 1680.
The bottle is decorated in late Ming style with the enjoyment of nature. These bottles are not uncommon but are seldom encountered with such fine painting.
The Catalogue of the Shibata Collection exhibits two similar bottles.

Very beautiful and rare large porcelain bowl with polychrome enamels with very finely made decorations of birds, florals and mountains, Fuji... The quality of production is remarkable and characteristic of Kyoto pieces where the decorations are made by the greatest craftsmen Satsuma vases in particular are the most sought after. An interesting namasu, serving dish or bowl, decorated entirely with green, aubergine, yellow, black and red enamels. A palette and style of decoration not dissimilar to that used in the mid seventeenth century that covers the whole of the interior of a dish with enamel decoration. In this case the enamelling disguises an unglazed ring to the interior of the bowl that would have enabled another dish to be stacked on it in the saggar...

A Japanese blue & white porcelain dish, moulded in ‘kraak’ style with the cavetto featuring butterflies and peaches in relief. The rinka or petalled edge with flowers. The centre of of the dish has a depiction of a gated pavilion set in a fabulous garden. Arita 1750 ~ 1770. A bowl with a very similar border design and alternate moulded butterflies and peaches is shown in the Catalogue of the Shibata Collection, item 3321.

A heavy porcelain jardinere or plant holder very finely painted with flowering peony and other shrubs in shades of underglaze blue and standing on three Chinese Ming Dynasty style Lion head feet. This item was made in Japan during either the late 19th or early 20th Century.

An unusual Arita enamelled wall-vase, kakehana, circa 1750. The seed-shaped hollow body is moulded with trailing vines supporting a dragonfly. The painter has used two different greens, aubergine, yellow and black. The unglazed back is pierced for suspension. It is probable that this kakehana was made for the home market.
Approximately 16.7cm long...
A small Japanese Arita kilns blue and white porcelain sauce dish, or mamezara, of mokko-gata form. Namban (or Nanban, Southern barbarian) decoration of a foreign figure, with dog, falconing in picturesque landscape. Painterly shironuki decoration in the cavetto of cranes flying among clouds. Edo period, Circa 1800. Good condition for its age, with two small chips inside the foot rim and a small glaze abrasion just above the foot rim. About 3 15/16 inches (10 cm) square.

A nice pair of authentic antiques, Imperial Nippon Japanese porcelain vases, which were made between 1891 and 1921. They are entirely hand-painted and highlighted in gold, depicting a continuous scenic landscape with two birds. The top of the vases is adorned with a raised jewel pattern.
The vases are marked underneath with "Imperial Nippon, Hand Painted." Please note that the picture of the two vases showing them slightly crooked is an error caused by the camera lenses...
