A heavy Burmese alabaster buddha sitting in Mara Vijaya (calling the earth to witness) posture on a base, with meditative facial expression, emphasized by the half-closed eyes which look downwards.

Splendid Lanna Thai Wooden Buddha with original gilding seated on an elaborately decorated throne. Very serene/calm expression. The Buddha is seated in the Vajrasana position with the right hand in the gesture of touching the Earth (bhumisparsa mudra) and the left hand rests in the gesture of meditation (dhyana mudra).

From our Southeast Asia Collection, a very good 18th century gilded bronze Thai buddha, seated in bhumisparsa mudra, gilded lacquer over bronze with interesting glass inserts to the base, and all the indicia of legitimate age and genuineness.
Size and Condition: 13 inches tall, 8 1/2 inches wide. There is obvious age-related wear to the gilding and some lacquer has flaked off in a few random places, but in small amounts...
