Beautiful antique Burmese Sutra, printed on leaves depicting different stories of the Buddha with his teachings. With fine printed writings on the back side and around the edges. Incised and stained with ink. Held together with lacquered and gilted wood with a raised scrolling leaves designs, lions and elephants. Age: Late 19th Century / early 20th century. Size: 19" length x 28.5" height.

A beautiful Thai painting portraying a Jataka tale. A royal chariot of with the future Buddha before he renounced his royal position. At the bottom of the painting four devotees are holding lotus buds perhaps indicative of another time frame. Done with mineral pigments and the most exquisite coloration. This thai painting was part of a Buddhist prayer book. On the backside a message in is beautifully written. Age: 18th-19th century. Size: 11.625"H x 8.625"L

This lacquer serving tray from Burma now called Myanmar) depicts an elaborate palace garden scene populated with nobles in court costumes. The tray is 14.5 inches across. The top surface is somewhat dulled from age end exposure. There is one small area of lost which is irregular in shape, approximately 1/4inch and is locate on toward the rim of the platter and a second area of loss approx 1/8 inch at the widest and follows the curve border rim design for about 1 inch(see pics 2 and 3.

From our Southeast Asia Collection, a very good 18th century gilded bronze Thai buddha, seated in bhumisparsa mudra, gilded lacquer over bronze with interesting glass inserts to the base, and all the indicia of legitimate age and genuineness.

Size and Condition: 13 inches tall, 8 1/2 inches wide. There is obvious age-related wear to the gilding and some lacquer has flaked off in a few random places, but in small amounts...

Beautiful and rare AVA Bronze Buddha subduing Mara, 17/18th Century, Burma, with downcast eyes, fine patina, good condition, no restorations, size: 16 cm. x 6.5 cm x 5 cm.

Serene Bronze Buddha subduing Mara, SHAN STATE Burma, 18/19th Century, very nice smooth patina, seated on a high-stepped throne, which tapers off towards the top and is a noteworthy characteristic of Shan artists, very good condition, no restorations, Size: H. 15.5 cm x W. 7.5 cm x D, 5 cm.

From our Southeast Asia Collection, a large and well-carved image of the Burmese monk Mogallana, 19th century. The carving is rendered in gilding and black lacquer over carved hardwood, with shell inserts for the eyes, typical for the better quality Mandalay era pieces. Overall, the piece is very nicely executed with good expressiveness and presence, making it very suitable for part of a shrine ensemble, or simply for display as a centerpiece on its own...

An interesting curved board with three openings on the wooden tool. It is not known what the object was used for but the wear on the wood invokes a rustic or the beauty found through the soft roundness of the edges. Age: 19th century. Size: length 35" width 13.5"

Charming bronze figure of the reclining Buddha. This stage depicting the death of his body and his attainment of the realm of his true self and ultimate enlightenment is called Mahaparinirvana. The cylindrical Linguam carved in deep relief with eight horizontal bands of Linguams. The piece topped by a blossoming lotus flower. This splendid, rare, sandstone piece is 80 cms (2.7 Ft) on its mount. The Khmer Linguam dates back to Angkor Baphuon period, 11th Century. Primitively carved molave hardwood mortar from the Philippines. This container would have been used for food preparation for grinding grain. It has an interesting wooden handle that gives this piece an unusual character. The bottom of the square bowl is worn through with years of use.
