A sprawl of chrysanthemum are delicately painted growing beneath the elegant curves of a Kanshi poem on this fine silk scroll by Kamisaka Sekka enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Pigment and ink on silk with silk border and black lacquered rollers. The scroll measures 11-1/2 x 73-1/2 inches (30 x 186 cm) and in fine condition. Of high content silver (.950 or higher), this warmer or burner is Korean, early 20th century, possibly 19th. Measures 5 3/4" x 6 1/4". Three pieces, burner, lid, and tray. Signed in rectangular cartouche on base, has marks for silver. Four bat shaped handles, two on lid, two on base. Lid and base are engraved with prunus blossoms, and the background around the engraving is slightly textured to create a more satiny surface...

A large exquisite vessel by Miura Chikusen III enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Hakuji Chokoku Unryu-e Kabin (White Porcelain Vase Carved with Clouds and Dragons), the box signed by both Chikusen and the woodworker (Sashimono-shi) Hosai. It retains the original rosewood stand, presumably made by Hosai. The vase is 37 cm (14-1/2 inches) tall and in excellent condition. It dates from between 1921 and 1931...

A pair of Chinese porcelain rice bowls and covers. Painted in famille rose enamels with dragons among lotus scrolls above waves. The base of each bowl carries a six character Daoguang reign mark in iron red. Republic period.

Condition: Very good condition, no breaks.

A Chinese powder blue baluster vase with a flared mouth over a short neck. The sides with a design of a incised four claw dragon chasing a flaming pearl. The tapering sides flared at the foot. The stepped base is plain. Vases of this period with this type of design are rare.

Size: Approximately 21-1/2 cm high by 12 cm diameter

Condition: The base has a crack and there is a possibility that the top may have been ground down...

Thinly potted Chinese famille-rose enamelled 'dragon' cup with a dragon and a bird chasing the flaming pearl. Gilt edged rim. The base with a six character iron-red Daoguang seal mark.

Size: Approximately 6.5 cm high by 8.5 cm diameter

Condition: Good condition, no cracks or chips. Some wear to the enamels and the gilt on the rim.

Age: Late Qing Dynasty to Republic

Golden bamboo spreads its leaf laden branches about the rim of this aka-e Kinsai bowl by Kyoto potter Takahashi Seizan and decorated by the famous painter Hashimoto Kansetsu enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 6-1/2 inches (17 cm) square and in excellent condition. This is from the personal collection of painter Konoshima Keika (1892-1974). We will be offering more from his household in the near future...

Two Chinese porcelain bowls, decorated in blue and white patterns; the exterior with relief dragon and Greek key designs, the interior with figured and dragon patterns with a central facing dragon also done in relief. The base glazed white with the rims left bare. The center has a six character mark surrounded by double circles in under-glaze blue...

An incredible amount of work went in to the burl-like lacquer finish of this early 20th century three-drawered calligraphy box. All surfaces excepting the bottom are covered in the unusual mottled finish known as wakasa, made by spattering on layers of various colored lacquers which are then rubbed down to a smooth, marbleized finish. Just when one thinks the artist has finished, the process is repeated. This small piece of furniture is the finest example of this technique we have come across...

A 20th century Japanese Agano pottery oil tsubo or vase of that form. The compressed spherical form with vitreous green glaze and blue pooling from the rim on high, waisted neck trending to a blue iridescence dripping where meets a thin, clear matte glazed buff body around the girth. The bottom unglazed around the flattened foot with single incised character off center - looks like it reads "Sei". Good condition - some bubbles in the glaze popped in the kiln...

A Chinese porcelain yuhuchunping vase with flared neck, painted with a cobalt blue ground, glazed white on the inside and on the base. The base holds a six character Yongzheng reign mark surrounded by double circles in underglaze blue.

Kraak period, Wanli reign (1563 - 1620) large plate or low bowl done in underglaze blue on white ground. The center design shows a dragon.

A seated figure covering his eyes with both hands used in Tantric Buddhism believed to provide supernatural powers. This one is made of clay and has tracings of gold leaf. It is incased in a stainless steel case. Size: Outside the case. H.2.2cm. W. 2cm.

A very unusual set of three scrolls depicting the women of Shimabara looking down with trepidation at a Fumi-e (a Christian symbol) before lotus enclosed in a wooden box titled Shizan Shimabara-me Sanpuku Tsui (Shizan, Women of Shimabara Three Scroll Set).
