19th Century Burma or Cambodian Bronze Buddha Head

The head is 11 inches tall overall or 8.75 inches tall without stand, and 5 inches wide.

It is in good condition with no repairs, chips, nor cracks, except chips at the wood stand.

The repousse brass on wood mortar with Kala heads. The iron pestle mounted with a hardwood kneeling figure. Ca. Late 19th to early 20th century. The mortar is 15 cm long, the pestle 29 cm.

A very rare gilt figure of Buddha with hands in the earth-touching gesture. The facial features are characteristic of Burmese Buddhas of the time with very large ears and nose.

A pair small statues of a woman and a man in traditional costume, cast and cold-worked in bronze and fixed on the original wooden stand. The woman is rolling cheroot cigars and the man is smoking one. Such small bronze figurines were souvenirs and gifts from British Burma. Made in mid Java, hammered and chiseled copper or bronze, decorated with a kind of vase with flower branches. Diameter 40,5 cm. Very good condition and lovely patina. Only one tiny hole.

A lacquered wood manuscript cover with the rectangular panel carved with scrolling foliate tendrils with a carved vase in the center. Age: 18th Century. Size: L. 37cm. H.14cm. Condition: Normal ageing with and old chip on the left edge and age crack on the right side.

Burmese silver ceremonial or monk's begging bowl. The exterior is decorated in repousse with a wide band of five mythological scenes with one figure and an elephant between foliage. Apparently unmarked. Condition: fine. Dimension: 13.8 cm diameter, 9.8 cm high, weight: 352 g.

A Sawankhalok covered box of circular form with a domed cover carved in the shape of persimmon. A rare 19th or early 20th century Malayan kris with an attractive pamir/pamor steel blade. The hilt has a (probably replacement) metal collar and a finely carved Garuda head in "kingfisher" form. The wood scabbard is decorated with engraved Straits Chinese style white metal bands depicting Buddhist emblems. There are old losses to the 'flared' top of the scabbard and the left 'ear' of the Garuda head is missing. Unusually there is no damage to the 'nose'. The old blade is in very good condition...

An old silver alloy offering vessel of oblong form, the outside repoussed with two monster masks among scrolls. Base with chiselled symbol. According to Urs Ramseyer in "The Art and Culture of Bali", these bowls were dignity symbols of the Balinese gentry, filled with betel accessories. Condition: few traces of usage. A fine tone of Sawankhalok celadon dish, covered overall with a bluish green glazed, exterior is plain and a circular firing scar appear to the unglazed base. Thailand 15th century and condition is perfect. Diameter: 20.2cm.

This lovely 19th century piece came from a Dutch private collection where it has been since the 1980's. It is 55 cm high and at the base it measures 25x25 cm. It has normal age wear and a wonderful old patina.
