Lustrous and richly glazed chawan by Raku specialist, Sasaki Shoraku, this is not your typical chawan. Created and inspired by Honami Koetsu's Kamiya chawan, this large, broad, high quality utsushi chawan has a deep black surface with areas of rusty red sprinkled on the interior and exterior of the bowl creating a wonderful landscape which is as pleasant to look at as it is to hold. This chawan measures 13.5 x 8.5cm and is in perfect condition in its original signed wood box.

Two sake cups notched and torn from pure white porcelain by Kato Takahiro enclosed respectively in their original signed wooden boxes decorated with overlapping cubes titled Sake Cup. A large white Tea Bowl by Kashima Aya enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The technique is deceptively complex. In fact, the initial form is created, then a thin layer of ceramic is made separately, dried, then cracked, and the individual pieces are applied like mosaic to the prepared form. This cage of raw white porcelain by Goto Miho, like dried bones, contains a glistening membrane, a mysterious ceramic sculpture by this young artist from her Heartbeat of the Skin series. It is 14 x 15 x 16.5 cm (roughly 5-1/2 x 6 x 6-1/2 inches) and is in excellent condition, directly from the artist. When prompted about her message she said: I feel that there is something vaguely present that is never visible in my everyday life...

This rare Ido chawan is glazed in a milky ash, Hagi style glaze and was presumably made at the kiln of the Tenryu-ji temple (Kyoto-yaki) as it bares the seal of the kiln. The clay was made using ground roof tile, a piece brought back from China which is explained in the accompanying paperwork provided with the chawan. This chawan has an elegant form and well addressed kodai, foot and has red over glaze (aka-e) decoration of the kanji “JU” and the cipher of Seki Bokuo.

Elegant Iga hachi with rimpa design by Yasuda Michio. This hachi is reminiscent of earlier Rimpa works and has underglaze slip work depicting a warabite ferns and fence design. The platter has wonderful accents of real gold sponged about the surface. Yasuda Michio is one of few carrying on the Rimpa tradition in ceramics, he studied with banura Shiro and has been widely exhibited and published.
