An unusual vase with rough, pebble textured pink glaze over scratched in cranes by one of Japans most important post-war artists, Shinkai Kanzan, enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The shape and the design are exactly what we would expect from Kanzan, the coloring going even a step beyond. The texture is like unpolished jewels, the inside of a geode; very pleasing to the hands. Large blue & white, sometsuke chawan with a vivid pine branch, matsu, stretching across the bowl. This chawan is by Kondo Hiroshi, son of Kondo Yuzo, Living National Treasure...

Lovely and rich blue and white, sometsuke plate set by Juyo Mukei Bunkazai; Kondo Yuzo. This sometsuke set is made of porcelain with underglaze gosu blue, each plate is decorated with a kaki-zu, persimmon design and is signed on the reverse.

Living National Treasure,Kondo Yuzo was arguably, the one of the finest sometsuke artists of the 20th century...

Very nice boxed Aka-Raku chawan with black reduction accents on the face of the bowl by an unidentified potter, circa 1990.

This chawan is in excellent condition, measures 5" X 3.5" and comes with its signed boxed.

Though I could not identify this potter, the box seal and seal on the chawan are an exact match. What I can say is that this is not an apocryphal mainline raku chawan and is not by Sasaki Shoraku, Ohi Choraku or some of the other usual suspects. Priced accordingly.

Very nice set of small kaiseki or sushi plates from the Bishu-gama kiln made by Bizen potter Yamamoto Soshu (Munehide).

Each small plate is in perfect condition, measures 3.75" x .75" and is cleared marked on the reverse and has a bota-mochi style decoration on the face of each piece. No box.

Wonderful Oribe set of iron decorated plates by veteran potter, Yamaguchi Jusetsu. Vivid green Oribe glaze and whispy iron decoration make this set very usable across a wide variety of uses including tea ceremony. Yamaguchi's works are widely exhibited and published in Japan and abroad.

These plates are all in great condition and measure approximately 5.75" x .5" each and come with their original signed box.

Rich Oribe square serving piece, with pierced and linen decoration for tea ceremony, kaiseki. This piece is made of stoneware and was made by veteran Oribe potter, Kato Sakusuke. His works are widely exhibited and published and his touch for making Oribe pottery is wonderful.

Rich Oribe serving piece, an Ogi-hachi, fan shaped tray for tea ceremony, kaiseki. This piece is made of stoneware and was made by veteran Oribe potter, Kato Sakusuke. His works are widely exhibited and published and his touch for making Oribe pottery is wonderful.

This piece is in great condition with its signed box and measures 12.5" by 9"

Elegant Hagi chawan with white to faint lavender ash glaze over slip and daido clay body. Classic turned foot, kodai with cut notch and impressed seal.

Though marked, I have been unable to read the seal and identify the potter. What I can say is this chawan is definitely post-war, circa 1960 -1970 and very much resembles the works of Sakakura Shinbei XII and Saka Koraizaemon XII from that time period.

This bowl measures 5" X 3.25" and is in great condition. No Box.

Pleasant crackle style chawan with Rimpa influenced design under and over the glaze. This chawan was made by veteran Kyoto native potter, Suzuki Soji who was a student of Tomimoto Kenkichi. Suzuki's chawan now days can cost 200,000 yen and more.

Large, oburi style Shiro-Hagi chawan with notched wari-kodai and profuse crackling around the bowl. I have no idea who made this large chawan as I can not read the seal, partially covered with glaze.

The are a few small spots of glaze loss as can be seen in the pictures, but all in all, this is a very handsome and strong chawan that looks great on a shelf. No box.

Rich and elegant kannyu, crackled layer, seiji celadon by Furukawa Toshio. This chawan, very much in the style of Shimizu Uichi has a beautiful seiji glaze over a perfectly thrown iron clay body.

Furukawa Toshio (b. 1949) is well known for his celadon and copper red pottery and he has been widely exhibited and illustrated both in and outside of Japan.

This chawan measures 5.7" X 2.75" and is in perfect condition and comes with its original artist signed box.

This boxed glass mizusashi is by Tanaka Tsuneo and is in perfect condition complete with its lacquer lid and signed wooden storage box. This piece has an etched signature on the bottom of the mizusashi that was difficult to photograph.

Potent green Iga-Oribe vase by noted master Japanese potter; Kishimoto Kennin (1934-). This roughly faceted mentori vase has varying hues of green and an overall iridescence across the body. Fine Shigaraki chawan by Kon Chiharu. Kon Chiharu apprenticed with the legendary master potter Tsuji Seimei and his work and firing is broadly reminescent of the masters work. Kon fires an anagama type kiln in Niigata but his works are decidedly Shigaraki in tradition and effect. His chawan start at 140,000 yen and can fetch up to 220,000 yen.

Fine Bizen sake set by Prefectural Intangible Cultural Property of Okayama (Bizen); Isezaki Mitsuru (b. 1934). Mitsuru is the brother of Living National Treasure, Ningen Kokuho, Isezaki Jun and uncle of Isezaki Koichiro. He is widely exhibited and published and has won the prestigious Kaneshige Toyo Prize for his work.

A slight deviation from the norm, here is a scroll depicting the character Tsubo by Shigaraki artist Koie Ryoji in liquid strokes, the outer lines dissipating into the paper canvas.
