A striking large Tsubo in silvered Bizen ware by innovative Bizen artist Matsui Tomoyuki enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Bizen Ginsai Tsubo and dating circa 1990. It exhibits all the features of great Bizen, the smooth clay struck with flashes of darker color. The sense is that of seeing a Bizen Tsubo in an old tintype photograph, a most unique approach. Robust, medieval styled mizusashi by veteran Shigaraki potter; Furutani Churoku IV (b. 1922). This face of this large mizusashi is covered in a wonderful layer of green ash and the back exhibits very fine hi-iro fire color...

The cloth textured surface seems to glow warm like the promise of warm days to come, cherries blossoming wide on this sake set by Ito Motohiko enclosed in the original signed wooden boxes. The Guinomi is 7.5cm (3 inches) diameter 3.5cm (1-1/2 inches) tall. The Tokkuri is 9.5cm (just less than 4 inches) diameter, 14.5cm (just less than 6 inches) tall and both are in excellent condition.

Elegant Hagi chawan with fine lip and kodai foot and a creamy and drippy rim of opaque glaze around the lip.

Though marked, the seal is unread. This chawan was purchased at a store in Hagi. The original owner could not wait the extra day for the wood box, so it is presented here in a Hagi store gift box. It was thought that this chawan was made by Notomi Choun, but I will leave the detective work to the next owner.

Red burns through the dramatically pin-holed white glaze clinging viciously to the sides of this magnificent Shino Chawan by representative Mino artist Hori Ichiro enclosed in the original signed wooden box which is in turn enclosed in a black lacquered wooden double-wood storage box . Enigmatic dark iron cuts through the clouds of tinged white, lending a brash sense of the primitive power of fire. It has great Hada, the texture so good it would certainly add flavor to your cup of tea...

Vivid white runs down over green filling the cracks in the rough faceted sides of this large Chawan by Nishihata Tadashi enclosed in the original wooden box titled Haiyu Chawan (Ash-Glazed Tea Bowl). The thick wari-kodai four part foot, very stable and firm, grounds the bowl solidly, rising up in raw clay to meet the double whamy of green and blue-edged white falling from the shoulder...

A unique Yin and Yang vase splashed with two moons, one dark, one light, by Hamada Shoji enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Yakishime Kakiwake Henko. The Ma or use of blank space (here the Yakishime raw clay) is quite unusual for this Mashiko potter. Kakiwake refers to the application of two glazes separated. The vessel is 23 cm (9 inches) tall and in excellent condition...

A tea bowl with stunning glaze by the legendary Miyashita Zenji 宮下善爾 (1939-2012), one of the greatest contemporary Kyoto potters. This is an early work, when he focused on celadon-like glazes. At that time he was studying ancient Chinese pieces, and was influenced by his father who excelled in celadon. His tea bowls are not common, and purple ones are quite rare.
