This elegant work of Karatsu pottery has an unglazed foot, showing the rich ferrous clay from which it is constructed, and displays splashes of ferrous pigment on a backdrop of ashen glaze with a milky white overglaze. The triangular shape and large proportions make for a very distinctive work of e-Karatsu or “painted” Karatsu.

Like many pottery traditions in Japan, Karatsu takes its name from the city where it originated...

This amazing piece, fresh from the kiln in April, is titled Mio, perhaps a play on the artists name, this kanji character meaning water which has pooled and collected. When looking at this piece, all the glaze has run down the body, filling the scalloping exfoliation with pools of lapiz blue. It is 27 x 30 x 58 cm (11 x 12 x 23 inches) and is in excellent condition.

A Beautiful bowl in crackled white set into a lattice like structure of raw porcelain pierced with a plethora of various sized holes by Kato Yoshiyasu enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Haku-yu no wan (White Glazed Bowl). A riotous sculpture covered in thin glaze pooling and glimmering in the crevices by Yamaguchi Mio accompanied by a signed wooden placard titled Mu (Nothingness) dating from 2021. It is 28 x 32 x 46 cm (11 x 13 x 18 inches) and is in excellent condition, directly from the artist.

Dark and rich Ao glazed teabowl over a thickly slipped and combed, kushime surface. The teabowl is made out of a dark iron bearing clay that I made myself and is altered and the foot is hand cut using a sharpened piece of bamboo.
