A playful Dragon rises from this genuine stone base, a sculpture perfect for the coming year of the Dragon by popular contemporary artist Sugitani Keizo. 18 x 15 x 25 cm (7-1/2 x 6 x 10 inches) and is in excellent condition, directly from the artist. The creature floats slightly over the stone base on a copper stud set into the stone. It comes accompanied by a signed certificate, directly from the artist.

Who says the work of a woman potter is feminine? This is a powerful Iga work by Watanabe Aiko enclosed in the original signed wooden box. There is nothing sedate about this work, charred and dripping with glassy green glaze, freckled with flying ash; the heavy lug handles jutting from the side slightly off kilter. The vessel is 7 inches (17 cm) tall, roughly the same diameter and in excellent condition...

These expressive forms utilize the clays natural textures to bring out the depths of the oribe green, and electric shimmers of blue flash on the surface in random patterns like heat lightning. It was created by the very popular Higashida Shigemasa and come enclosed in their original signed wooden boxes titled Oribe Hanaire and Koro respectively...

Elegant Hagi chawan with fine lip and kodai foot and a creamy and drippy rim of opaque glaze around the lip.

Though marked, the seal is unread. This chawan was purchased at a store in Hagi. The original owner could not wait the extra day for the wood box, so it is presented here in a Hagi store gift box. It was thought that this chawan was made by Notomi Choun, but I will leave the detective work to the next owner.

A powerful Mimitsuki Karatsu Mizusashi by Nakagawa Jinembo (Jinenbo b. 1953) enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Vicious white glaze, deeply fissured, supplants the fawn brown of the back, all over a very rough red clay filled with shiseki stones. The piece breathes energy, vivacious and playful it is a pleasure to view and use. The lid is similarly glazed, with hakeme brush marks inside. The piece is roughly 7 inches (18 cm) tall, the same diameter and in perfect condition...

Impressed rope designs under black swirls create a dynamic sense of movement on this huge charger by Ningenkokuho Shimaoka Tatsuzo enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The piece is 16 inches (40 cm) diameter and 3-1/2 inches (8.5 cm) tall; in perfect condition. After serving in World War II, Tatsuzo apprenticed under world famous Mashiko Mingei potter Hamada Shoji, establishing his own kiln in 1954...

Large and bold faceted teabowl with two raised ridges surrounding the bowl under one of my Oribe glazes. There is areas of poured white slip under the glaze that creates areas of lighter and darker Oribe.

A beautiful combination of grays and lavenders covers the natural sculpted form in sunset color Hagi clay by legendary artisan Kaneta Masanao enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Hagi Kurinuki Hanaire dating circa 2000. It is 30 x 24 x 23 cm (12 x 10 x 9 inches) and is in excellent condition.
Kaneta Masanao likely needs no introduction, certainly one of Hagi is most well known names, he has been displayed both nationally and internationally innumerable times...

A fine Bizen tokkuri embellished with nobori kiri by Abe Anjin enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Bizen Kakyo Tokkuri. Once again Abe Anjin has proved his mastery of traditional form with this superb rendition of Momoyama styling; the thick squat form, stoopedr like the shoulders of an aged warrior from that long ago era, his family crest emblazoned on his back.
