Wow! A wide slab banded with galactic color which stands at a striking angle, challenging our sense of spatial cognizance by Hashimoto Tomonari. Created in 2023, it is 48 x 15 x 37 cm (18 x 6 x 14-1/2 inches) and is in prefect condition, directly from the artist. Large jar or vase by Kirk Mangus (American, 1952-2013) free form with slip and incised decoration in the form of two fishes (one large, one small, the large fish going after the small of course). An ever-folding band of gold flecked fabric patterned with colors and waves like an elaborate obi (sash) seems to bind the cloak of rough dark clay forming this vase by Nakamura Takuo (Baizan III) enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Atop a gilded Karasu-guchi finial, a tradtional shape called a Crows Mouth, provides the top and a spattering of ash sprays out a random pattern against the rigid form. Classic Hamada Shoji lugged vase measuring approximately 20.5cm high and just over 10cm wide, this vase is made of stoneware and then was covered in a thin wash over the surface. The vase was dipped at angles almost kakewake style in a rich dark temmoku which breaks to a rusty accent here and there and also in the classic Hamada nuka glaze which has a wonderful quality and various effects about the surface with the attached lugs adding a nice focal point to the form...

Incredibly thick white glaze envelops the base of this torn and twisted form by Kato Toyohisa enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Shino Hanaire. An organic form covered in thick emerald glaze Higashida Shigemasa and enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Oribe Jikiro.  The eclectic shape is rendered roma block of clay, hollowed and torn, like the ragged crags of Gifu, home of this pottery tradition.  Natural textures to bring out the depths of the oribe green, and electric shimmers of blue rush over the edges evoking the sense of water on the move.

Black, black, BLACK!  This is the word with Isezaki Koichiro and these two splendid works enclosed in the original signed wooden boxes titled Kuro Sake Tsugi and Kuro Sake Nomi (Black Sake Pourer and Black Sake Cup respectively).  The granular clay is a step away from standard Bizen, but the blasting of ash gives it away.  The rims seem to be worn away, as if the flames have caused them to degrade.  An undulating scar like a wave seems to intimate the waves of spirits that will pour forth. ...
