Silver ray-skin texture covers this fabulous Katakuchi sake pot by Ichikawa Toru enclosed in the original signed wooden box. OMG a chilled Daiginjo served with this would have to taste like a million bucks! Like a footed softball, it is 12 cm (4-3/4 inches) diameter, ever so slightly shorter although it appears to be taller than it is wide.
One of my favorite artists, the innovative Ichikawa Toru was born in Tokyo in 1973...

A thick glazed tokkuri and chokko cup by Koyama Kiyoko enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The Tokkuri has a playful stance, slightly cocky and leaning, as if it wants to pour. Both are covered in thick, dripping ash glaze, a product of her legendary long firings, sometimes lasting ten days. It is 5 inches (13 cm) tall and in fine condition.
Kiyoko was the subject of the film Hi-Bi (2005) and is the pioneering female wood firing artist in Japan...

There is no doubt about the superlative nature of the deep celadon glazes used by Living National Treasure Nakajima Hiroshi, and this vessel is no let down.  A darkly crackled rich green covers this sake flask which comes enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled modestly Seiji Tokkuri.  Up from the base drive two fingers of rich red clay, the blanks left by the artists fingers when he dipped the bottle in glaze.  This adds a strong sense of connection between the artist and user.

Moltenb ash tumbles over the sides of this lidded coffer by Fujioka Shuhei enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Iga Toko (Ceramic Box).   The shape is organic with a clefted-mesa likening to a Japanese garden stone.  Rather than a simple round separation, the artist has chosen a key shaped cut which adds a sense of the natural world, God does not work in straight lines so they say, and neither does Fujioka Sensei!

Dohei Fujinoki is one of the most popular artist in contemporary KARATSU pottery scene. Initially he aimed a western painter and then,when he met an old KARATSU pottery piece he had been fascinated. Molten ash wraps its fingers around the elongated form of this Bizen Vase by Fujiwara Yu enclosed in the original signed wooden box.  The plasticity of the glaze as it creeps around the surface, over raw clay, mountains of ash and spatters of lighter encrustations is truly a sight to appreciate.  A masterpiece.  Even the base is beautifully covered in its own unique way, and every angle creates a new view.
