Few foreign potters are able to embrace the Japanese aesthetic as well as Jeff Shapiro. Here is a piece from his second solo exhibition in Tokyo dated 1991. This piece is 9-1/2 inches (24 cm) tall, 9 inches (23 cm) diameter and in excellent condition.

Every facet is unique on this natural torn shape by Kishimoto Kennin enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Iga Hanaike ‘Honoka’ or Fire Flower. It is much like a flower in clay, rising up from the bulb, the flowers placed into it the extension of the stalk. It is 32.5 cm (12-3/4 inches) tall and in excellent condition.

This large Haku En-Yu, white salt fired, chawan is by Kyoto master potter; Iwabuchi Shigeya (1925-1993). Haunting shapes are scraped into the raw clay like some ancient Nazcan riddle on this huge ball vase by Sato Kazuhiko. The vase is 15-1/2 inches (40 cm) tall, 17 inches (43 cm) diameter and in excellent condition. There is no box. Kazuhiko (b. 1947) is a widely displayed artist and author of many books on the ceramic arts. For more information on this artist see Modern Japanese Ceramics in American Collections (1993). Round serving platter in the "Toucans" pattern from Hermes, produced for Hermes by Moustiers France in their famous faience ware.

This redware pottery is heavier than the Limoges porcelain in which this pattern is usually found. The Moustiers ware is less common as fewer pieces were made due their being handmade with a raised design, except the plates which are flat.

The platter is 12 inches (30.5cm) in diameter, and is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. Marked.

Rich Oribe square serving piece, with pierced and linen decoration for tea ceremony, kaiseki. This piece is made of stoneware and was made by veteran Oribe potter, Kato Sakusuke. His works are widely exhibited and published and his touch for making Oribe pottery is wonderful.

This great bronze statue titled "Little Major" was done by listed Arizona sculptor J. N. Muir in 1984. Mr. Muir specializes in historical military figures in all sizes - small to life size. Rock Newcomb is a listed Arizona artist born in 1945. He is known for highly realistic Native American pottery still lifes. This beautiful Indian pot is a perfect example of his work. It measures 8" x 10" without the frame, and is titled "Ancient Archives." The painting is of a Tularosa black-on-white pitcher circa A.D. 1200-1300 with a handle formed to resemble a dog with a burden basket on its back.

This chawan is in excellent condition, measures 5" X 3.5" and comes with its signed boxed.

Though I could not identify this potter, the box seal and seal on the chawan are an exact match. What I can say is that this is not an apocryphal mainline raku chawan and is not by Sasaki Shoraku, Ohi Choraku or some of the other usual suspects. Priced accordingly.

The creator of this exceptional tea bowl is Koto Kenshi, a native of the town of Hagi in Yamaguchi prefecture who has been producing many fine works since opening his studio in 1970. A rare set of Tokkuri by important artist Okabe Mineo enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Seto-te Tokkuri.
