Oil on canvas painting by Haitian artist J.B. Gaston, 12 1/2" by 16", unframed, the subject a colorful tropical village among palms, numerous figures going about their regular activities. This work is squarely within the classic style of art we have come to expect from Haiti. It is not an old work but continues a tradition of Haitian art going back to the 1940's. Excellent condition. Oil on wood panel landscape in the Netherlands, 13" by 10" (22" by 19" in old, likely original frame), signed at lower left corner by the listed American artist and illustrator EDWIN H. KIEFER (1860-1931). This antique painting features a classic windmill, and a woman classically dressed, carrying a basket, in the left foreground. The late 19th century work is very dirty; a cleaning would work wonders. There is a long vertical crack in the panel at upper left as shown...

Oil on canvas, 36" by 24" (45" by 33" as framed in wood), the subject a wicker chair draped with lacy cloth, a painting in the background and tea pot at right, signed with what appears as "Egeun" at lower right and dated 82. A Greek-speaker emailed me to inform me that the signed name is, in Greek, "Eleni" (Greek for "Helen"). This is a bright, contemporary painting in really excellent, fine wall-ready condition.

Jean Jacques Henner, French, 1829-1905. This dreamy beautiful painting is oil on canvas, signed lower left is 15 7/8" by 24 1/8" in a beautifl period frame (24 3/8" by 32 7/8"). It is in good condition and has been lined long ago. There is an old tag on the upper back with the name in French and a price of $27,500. He is listed in Benezit and his paintings sell for up to $75,000.

A vintage oil on board painting of an impossibly endowed southwestern desert scene, (possibly Arizona, since the saguaro grows natively only there) signed at lower right with initials "AHS". The painting, 14" by 18" (19" by 23" including linen covered surface around the painting) likely dates to the 1960's or early 1970's...

Lovely antique oil signed at extreme lower right corner by the Dutch master artist JAN JACOB COENRAD SPOHLER (1837-1923), the subject a classic canal in summer, the scene including windmills, boats, houses, churches (Utrecht, Leiden?) and tiny figures. The work measures 8 1/2" by 13 1/2" (10 1/2" by 15 1/2" in older 20th century frame). The work is very typical of his paintings, many of which show ice skaters in the winter. Larger works have reached $40,000 at auction in the Netherlands...

Nineteenth Century Portrait Of A “Young Girl” Unsigned Oil 24x20” This work is delicate and beautiful. Circa 1870s

Oil on canvas, 19 1/2" by 25 1/2" (25 1/2" by 31 1/2" as framed)---(possibly an inner frame, the outer one long since separated), apparently unsigned, circa early 20th century, the subject the famous and unique twin Thatcher Island lighthouses (also known as Cape Ann Light Station), about one mile off the coast of Rockport, Massachusetts. The lighthouses were erected in 1861 as a pair, thereby aiding navigation by mariners. Each is 124 feet in height...

Original watercolor/gouache on paper by Hans Kleiss (1901-1973) depicting a veiled woman from Morocco, circa 1940-1950. In beautiful condition. Signed l.l. 16cm by 13cm. Hans Kleiss was an Orientalist/ Africanist painter, illustrator, and caricaturist. He was the husband of Orientalist painter Yvonne Kleiss-Herzig. They both lived for long periods in North Africa (Morocco and Algeria). They settled together in Sidi Slimane (Morocco) in the early fifties before returning to France...

A fine miniature portrait painting, strongly attributed to Samuel Broadbent. The sitter is reputedly Michael Butler, founder of the Union News Company. The attribution is based on the heavy coloring used in the sitter's face, the positioning in the painting of the sitter, the background technique, and the similarity to the example in the Manney collection.
