A very well executed oil on canvas coastal landscape painting, square shape at 23 1/4" by 23 1/4" (28 3/4" by 28 3/4" in cream-color laminated framing), the scene a traditional picturesque small fishing craft of Southeast Asian waters, with several figures and distant craft loosely suggested, the work signed at lower right with what appears as "Sobinto". There being no artist by this name I have explored online the other possibilities...

Oil on canvas, 16" by 20", unframed, signed at lower right in red "SOON" and with artist's device, signed there "86", the subject a thatched roof village fronting low mountains, clothes hanging to dry in the breeze. This appear to be most likely Korean art, perhaps by a Korean-American, considering the American size stretcher. The name is common in Korea but I don't believe the artist is well known. The work is highly impressionistic and with a frame this will look even better...

From a local estate, the homeowners having spent much time in Southeast Asia, an oil on panel unframed and unsigned painting of a younger man wearing some traditional simple clothing. The piece measures 26 3/4" by 23 3/4" and dates to the late 20th century. It is competently painted, the figure tightly outlined, the colors muted gray and tan and white, his waistband area providing a spare touch of bright color.

An oil on canvas painting promoting a South Asian or Indian movie, titled "Sangeeta". The work measures 35 1/2" by 25 1/4" in a simple black frame. It is a bit loose on the stretcher but otherwise is in good condition. Major star's name is Nigar Shyam, and there is writing in Arabic which I would imagine place this in the northern or western part of the country.

Large unframed oil on canvas painting of three central figures chatting, other figures in the distance, 24" by 36", painted in a highly impressionist manner, and signed at lower left with the familiar "Buenaventura" signature. The artist is either ALFREDO BUENAVENTURA (1942-1982) or his uncle CESAR BUENAVENTURA (1922-1983). I cannot be certain because their works often look very similar, as do their signatures, and in this case the beginning of the signature is difficult to discern...

Oil on canvas, simply framed in wood, the canvas measuring 35 1/2" by 30" (90 cm. by 76 cm.) on the stretchers, signed at lower right in the wet paint and dated there "10-4-1996". This is a work by a popular and well regarded Indonesian painter, DJOKO PEKIK (1938-). The works of Pekik (sometimes spelled Pekek) have sold to at least the $40,000 level at auctions of Southeast Asian paintings in Singapore and Hong Kong...

Oil on canvas Asian painting of a rural landscape in tropical Indonesia, 19 1/2" by 27 1/2" (24 1/2" by 32 1/2" framed), two female figures at center washing in the small lake or pond, a towering mountain range piercing the clouds in the distance, bamboo thicket at right, and a flaming flamboyan or poinciana tree at left, signed at lower left "M. DULLAH". This is a circa 1960's or 1970's work, most likely. The last name is common in Indonesia...

Oil on canvas painting (20" by 16", 30" by 26" nicely framed), the subject of the painting two younger women bathing with a child in a tropical forest stream, signed at lower right "Cesar" by CESAR AMORSOLO (1903-1998), a well listed artist, and nephew of the famous Filipino master artist Fernando Amorsolo. Cesar, the son of Alejandro Amorsolo, brother of Fernando, was born in Manila. Orphaned at age six, he lived with his famous uncle and assisted him for some thirty years...

PAIR of oil on canvas paintings, each 18" by 24" (one unframed, the other 20" by 26" in simple wood framing), both signed at lower right by the well-known Filipino artist SALVADOR CABRERA (1930-1986). The subject of each is a Big Eyed child, one a girl holding a doll, the other a mischievous-looking young boy with fishing pole and slingshot. Cabrera was born in Sexmoan, Pampanga. He studied art at the College of Fine Arts and the University of the Philippines...

A very nicely painted work, oil on canvasboard, 16" by 20" (20 1/2" by 24 1/2" in white and yellow frame), titled on a label "Tea Ceremony", the artist name given there as Mario Munoz, and signed M. Munoz at lower right corner. We see a young woman in traditional kimono and hair treatment, seated on the floor next to a low table set with tea service, two shallow bowls with food, and a vase at rear with yellow flowers, perhaps chrysanthemums...

A soothing contemporary oil on canvas painting of a mule-drawn cart and its rider on a dirt track in the tropical forest, 19 1/2" by 27 1/2", unframed, signed at lower right by artist Fernando Danni or "Darni". I do not see a listing for this name but the artist displays here a skilled impressionist technique. Note the purple, and yellow, blooming trees at right and the fine handling of light and shadow. Condition is excellent.

An oil on canvas painting of the symmetrical snow-capped cone of Mt. Fujiyama in Japan, hardy palms in the foreground, signed at lower right by Japanese artist "T. Arashi" (signed in English and Japanese characters), no date, circa 1980. The artist was very talented and has created a beautiful and arresting composition. The mystical, famous mountain stands in all its glory above the surrounding landscape...

A large oil on canvas painting of a traditional horse-drawn cart of the Philippines, painted in a striking modernist interpretation, signed at lower right by noted contemporary Filipino artist ROGER SAN MIGUEL (1940-). The works measures 24" by 36" and 31" by 43" in its original blue mid-century frame bearing label from the House of Frames, Angeles City, Philippines (about 80 miles northwest of Manila near the old Clark Air Base). The framing suggests an early date for this work, perhaps 1970....

Oil on canvas, 27 1/2" by 22 1/2" (36" by 30" as framed), the subject a young man wearing a colorful bandana, intently working on some objects in his hands, a traditional ethnic mask in the upper right background. The painting is signed in red at lower right "S. C. YUAN", (1911-1974), who was an important Chinese-American artist from the Monterey, California area, however, this is definitely NOT a work of that well-known artist (I showed images to several auction houses and a gallery or two). ...

A beautifully painted impressionist view of the charming Filipino countryside, " by ", unframed, signed at lower right "T. I. SANCHEZ Manila", and dated there 1963. The unframed oil on canvas is in excellent overall condition. I note a slight dimple/depression at left which is visible when viewed in raking light (see photo). A light cleaning would be beneficial. Sanchez does not appear to be a listed artist but was certainly a talent, in the tradition of the great Fernando Amorsolo. See oth...
