From our European Collection, a wonderful signed and dated (1860) oil on canvas entitled "The Offering" by British genre painting master John Bagnold Burgess (1830-1897). Burgess was a well -accomplished painter of the mid-late 19th century, regarded as highly in his own time, as he is nowadays. He was nominated to membership of the Royal Academy in 1889, where he had over 70 paintings displayed from about 1850 all the way through to his death in 1897...

While we have yet to identify the artist or the subject, we would contend that the work is first rate considering the mood captured by the painter. The man exudes a somewhat austere aristocratic brood, yet exudes the strengths of youth and ambition, a man ready to make his place in the world. We believe the work to be of the British school painted c. 1850 or earlier as suggested by the early Victorian shape of the seat rail...

From our European Collection, a fine 18th century oil on canvas "Painting of a Gentleman," bust length in a brown coat, appears to be in the original period frame. Attributed to Thomas Hudson or Circle of Thomas Hudson (1701-1779).

Size and Condition: Framed dimensions approximately 40 inches tall by 35 inches wide, unframed image size is 30.5 x 25.5 inches...

Large oil by J. Syer (1815 - 1885) British, this pleasant country scene was painted in 1870. It measures 51 1/2" wide x 38" high on the inside of the frame. On the back of the canvas there is a label that reads "Scene on the River Llugwy, North Wales." and says to keep the label attached for authenticity. This canvas has been relined, and there is a very tiny puncture on the left side near the fence.
