Oil on canvasboard painting of gulls flying above the waves, the stern of a boat at left, 12" by 16", (17" by 21 1/2" framed), signed in ink on reverse ("Painted by Edith Fite"/XXX Magee 1951"). The scene reminds of how hungry gulls loyally follow the back end of a fishing boat. I have not located information on the artist. The painting could well benefit from a cleaning after about 70 years.

A very pretty contemporary oil on canvas landscape of trees, a cluster of pink flowers in the left foreground, signed at lower right by California Art Club associate member DULCIE ADAMS. Biographical information seems to be lacking on this obviously talented artist. The work measures 18" by 24" (26 1/2" by 32" nicely framed). Painting is in excellent condition; linen liner has a small stain that could probably be removed.

Painting on paper, either oil or acrylic, the subject a young boy, from the "Georgia Series", signed at lower right and again on the reverse backing by well listed American artist HARLEY MANLIUS PERKINS (1883-1964). The work, measuring 30" by 24" and 37" by 30 1/2" as framed, likely dates to about the late 1940's or early 1950's. Perkins was born in Bakersfield, Vermont, his mother's lineage traceable directly to Governor William Bradford of the Plymouth Colony...

Oil on canvas laid on board painting of the Grand Canyon, 17" by 21" (20" by 24" as framed), apparently unsigned, circa 1940's, possibly earlier, executed in a naive manner that borders on or crosses the line to folk art. I think the technique is intentionally naive and primitive, as opposed to just the less-refined work of an amateur artist. The frame (see close-up) adds to the folk art aspects. This is a fine addition to your Southwest or Southwest folk art collection.

By the hand of listed American artist HUGO MELVILLE FISHER (1876-1946), an impressive oil on canvas painting of the vegetated banks of a river on a spring day, 23" by 27" (31" by 35" attractively framed), signed at lower right corner in red. The impressionist, rich, IMPASTO technique (as in the tree's leaves) is impressive and skilled. Fisher, the son of artist Hugo Anton Fisher, was born in Brooklyn in 1876, moving to Alameda, California at age 8. He spent two years in Hawaii...

For the collector of classic California Plein Air art, an oil on canvas work, "Laguna Waves", 20" by 24" (27 1/2" by 31 1/2" in quality reproduction gold frame), signed at lower right by well listed and often-auctioned CHRISTIAN VON SCHNEIDAU (1893-1976). The painting features true impressionist brush strokes and colors, enhanced by a recent professional cleaning which really revealed those beautiful strokes and colors. Von Schneidau was born in Sweden of noble birth...

An American impressionist coastal seascape painting on the rough side of a Masonite panel, 12" by 16" (19" by 22 1/2" in quality gold frame), signed at lower right by artist Erna Gruenbaum. Oddly, considering the quality, there is no listing of an artist by this name. The painting probably dates to the 1950's or thereabouts. The frame has very light wear but retains its value.

Fine old painting of a young woman in a most distinctive red-striped dress, signed at lower right by American artist REVINGTON ARTHUR (1908-1986). This painting has composition, a great palette and blond light, and a modernist feel. It stands in contrast to much of his work, which was executed in rather dark colors. The artist was a student of George Luks, Arshile Gorky, and Kimon Nicolaides...

Oil on canvas, 20" by 24", 23 1/2" by 29" as framed, the subject a vase of orange flowers in a complex still life setting, an old timer wood dresser against the wall, other elements including books, smoker's pipe, ashtray, picture frame, tobacco can completing the scene. The painting is signed at lower left apparently "DAILEY" and is dated there "42". Also on the stretcher, faintly in white chalk, are the words " Still Dailey" (partly unreadable)...

Robert Brackman (Born Odessa, Russia 1898; Died Roank, CT 1980). “Still Life on White”. Oil on Canvas. Signed Lower Right and on Rear (with title). Dimensions; site 19.5"wide x 15.5"high, with gilt frame 27"wide x 22"high. Brackman studied at the National Academy of Design and was a long time teacher at the Art Students League of NY and elsewhere. His paintings are in many Museum Collections.

This might well be a scene in northern New Mexico or southern Colorado, but the artist was known to have painted in many locales in the American west, including Montana, Oregon and Alaska. Ward, a native Californian, moved to the Monterey area in the mid 1950's...

Rare gouache on paper circa 1940s by Emanuel Glicenstein (Glicen) Romano (American born in Italy, 1897-1984). This work measures roughly 12" by 9" (19" by 15" in its frame). It is signed Glicenstein Romano l.l. Glicenstein Romano worked for the Federal Art Project creating murals in the thirties. He created a series of allegorical works depicting the Holocaust in the forties and this work may be part of that group...
