Oil on canvas laid on board painting, circa 1950, titled in artist hand on reverse "The Rail Fence", 13 1/2" by 17" (17 1/2" by 21" framed) signed at lower right by the artist MYRON CHESTER NUTTING (1890-1972). Nutting was born in Nevada. He became known in California for landscape and portrait works. He and his wife spent time painting in Cambria on the scenic Central Coast in 1939 and again from 1953-1955. Apparently he also spent time in Texas...

A lovely highly impressionist oil on board painting of coffee pots and creamers on a table, apparently unsigned, and of vintage age, possibly 1930's or 1940's I believe. The work measures 14 1/2" by 15 1/4" (18" by 18 1/2" framed). On the reverse of the old board is written in old hand in pencil what appears as "Robert Swasey/327 Spring St./Portland Maine". I have looked for the name Robert Swasey in standard art search sites and have not located a known recognized painter by this name...

For some time I have attempted to decipher this signature but have come up short. Obviously the painter is skilled; note the detailed and realistic water droplets on the flowers...

Attractive 1940's watercolor painting of coastal surf and rocks, 11 1/2" by 15 1/2" (18" by 22" in attractive gold carved frame), signed at lower left by listed California artist CARL RUBEN WALLINE (1884-1976). Affixed to the backing is a very old Spectrum Club/Long Beach label and the title "Breakers", and the date June 8, 194(X). The watercolor is very light and impressionistic; there could be even sun fading, or this effect could be the way the artist painted it; difficult to determine...

Recently acquired from a Southern California German-American family liquidating a household, are twenty-one watercolor paintings by "Uncle Max" (Markus "Max" Hansen, 1898-), featuring mostly Old World landscapes and street scenes, with a few interiors in the mix. The subject is a still life including cup and saucer, what appears to be a pitcher, and other table top items arranged in an intentionally shallow space. The work measures 18 1/2" by 22" and is unframed. The wood panel has warped with time, causing the work to be concave. A restorer could likely remove from the wood and place it on another canvas but of course that would come at a cost...
