Joseph Fernand Henri Léger (French)February 4, 1881 – August 17, 1955) was a French painter, sculptor, and filmmaker. In his early works he created a personal form of cubism (known as "tubism") which he gradually modified into a more figurative, populist style. His boldly simplified treatment of modern subject matter has caused him to be regarded as a forerunner of pop art.

Master Artist Jean Volang, was born in Vietnam in 1921 and began his painting at an early age when he was taught by a French born teacher who later told him to paint in France, especially Paris where he could make his mark in the world. Japanese limited edition sosaku hanga “kappa-ban” (stencil print) by Yoshitoshi Mori (1898-1992) titled “Hasami” (variously translated as “Scissors” or “Nail Clipper”). The print is pencil-signed “Y. Mori” at the lower left, dated ’79, and numbered 24/50. The artist’s red seal is above the signature. The lower edge of the paper verso also contains the title and the original purchase price of 120,000 yen. The paper measures 17”V x 22 1/2”H...

Original etching on BFK Rives paper, "Issachar", from the Twelve Tribes of Israel series, 1973, signed by the artist SALVADOR DALI (1904-1989) at lower right margin and numbered 21/195 at lower left. The work is generally clean and comes with quality gold leaf framing, but no glass. There is slight oxidation within the mat opening. Print is taped at top edge only. Measurements are 22 1/2" by 15 1/2" inside the mat; sheet measures 25 1/2" by 19 3/4"; and finally, 32" by 25" framed.

A large etching titled, “Veduta della Gran Curia Innocenziana,” (View of the Palazzo di Monetcitorio) part of Giovanni Battista Piranesi’s folio of Views of Rome, first published in 1752. The etchings were often reproduced, but this one has both the correct heavy laid paper with appropriate watermark and the center crease where it was folded into the original folio. It has good margins beyond the plate mark. Sheet size 21 ¼ x 29 ¾ inches (54 x 75.4 cm)...

An interesting and rather unusual part of the Emanation series that Haku Maki began to produce in the mid-1960s, Emanation 73 measures 8.3inW x 11.3inH and is the fourth of a small run of 50.

A Very Fine Haku Maki (1924-2000) Japanese Woodblock Print with Persimmon This print is a striking reddish orange persimmon with leaves tipped with a special Japanese lacquerand the thin and thick contrasted dark back ground. Haku Maki did some purely white prints—some had a small splash of color, others had none. This one, 81-3, offers three white plump persimmons. Persimmons were an oft-used subject, sometimes a single depiction of the fruit, sometimes two, but very rarely three persimmons and even more rarely done only in white. The print measures 9.5in W x 10.75in H and is in excellent condition. An edition of 130, this one is number 90.

Print by Birger Sandzen (Swedish American Artist 1871-1954), titled "The Sentinels", a well known image by this revered artist, done with what is described as Nailhead print making, similar to his woodblock and linoleum prints, though having much more precise definition and detail. Measures: Sheet size (actual size of sheet minus edge losses) 10 7/8" x 8 5/8", image is 4 3/4" x 7". Signed on lower right in pencil, his initials BS in the lower right of the print, titled "The Sentinels" on low...

Poem 71-71 is a Maki depiction of 子 Child and is one of those large red kanji on a black background that Daniel Tretiak valled a Big Red. This one measures 12in W by 17.5in H and is no.13 of an edition of 153. It is in excellent condition.

This is a block print on an unusual paper, the subject a mounted Native American banging his drum while on a white horse, signed in the block by the important "dean of Arizona artists", LON MEGARGEE (1883-1960). The striking image might be after a painting by the artist, who, the story goes, was passed one day in the desert by a warrior in a dreamy trance-like reverie state, working his drum in this manner, barely noticing the white man watching him pass...

An interesting color printed engraving of George Washington published in London in 1798 by Robert Cribb, Holborn, engraved by William Nutter after a painting by Gilbert Stuart purported to belong to J.S. DeFranca of Devonshire Place. Devonshire Place is a part of London, but a quick search did not turn up a J.S. DeFranca and it is possible that this print is a copy of another print of Washington, based on the Lansdowne portrait by Gilbert Stuart...
