The artist did leave behind a number of etchings of New York scenes, but there seems to be a lack of biographical information on him or her. The print is in brown ink on a thin paper. Etching titled "THE GREEN SHUTTER NEW ORLEANS", signed with initials in the plate and in pencil by the artist in margin, the sheet 9 7/8" by 7 3/4", framed as found in narrow black strip frame of the period. Buell was a noted woman etcher, active from the 1920's through the late 1950's. Born in Illinois, she received some art training at Oberlin College in Ohio, and further study at the Art Students League in New York and with famed etcher Martin Lewis...

Etching (5 5/8" by 7 1/2", 13 1/2" by 15" in pleasing old gold framing), titled on reverse label "Fishermen's Houses Saint Tropez", (French Riviera), pencil signed in the margin by listed California artist REGINALD WILMER VAUGHAN (1870-1958). The etching likely dates to about the 1930's or 1940's, I believe. Vaughan was born in Boston of blue blood stock (relatives were with George Washington at Valley Forge)...

The print is titled at lower left, "Bourbon Street Patio", and bears the artist's notation "Ed/100" at lower center. Loving was a familiar figure on the New Orleans art scene for decades, painting and executing prints as well. A teacher as well, he was something of a father figure of sorts to other artists in the region...

This is an etching on paper, 7" by 6" (12" by 9 1/4" framed) by Tennessee born artist JAMES CARL HANCOCK (1898-1966), titled "THE GATE OF THE LIONS NEW ORLEANS LA." at lower right and signed in pencil below and dated there 1939. This is a view of old French Quarter New Orleans by a talented etcher. Hancock was self taught and in 1938 a book of his etchings, drypoints and sketches was published. Etching, 4 3/4" by 6 5/8" inside the mat, 10" by 12 1/2" in simple black strip frame, titled in pencil at left margin "A Bermuda Lane" and signed in margin in pencil at lower right by artist RAY ALLEN. I do not see a listing for an artist of this name. The work likely dates to about the 1950's I would think, and is probably still in its original frame. The impression is strong, with a distinct plate mark. Disregard false yellow colors in some of the photos, which are an effect of the camera....

A framed PAIR of identically framed color prints, each 11 1/2" by 15 1/4" as framed, the subjects of both the famous bookstalls by the Seine in Paris, Notre Dame cathedral in the distance. A very interesting etching of what appears to be Paris' Montmartre section, (the windmill a famous feature, painted by many artists), signed in pencil in the lower right margin "B. Vilard". Surprisingly I do not see a listing for an artist by this name---could possibly be a pen name.. The work measures 8 1/2" by 11" inside the mat and 13 3/4" by 16 1/4" framed. It is very clean and fresh, despite likely dating to the first half of the 20th century. Note the subtle blue/brown colors.
