Measurements are 9 1/2" by 7" inside the existing mat and 16" by 13" in blond wood strip frame. The photo has come loose inside the frame. Original 1977 Marc Chagall (1887-1985) color lithograph "The Village", (Mourlot 917), executed for the "Le Chemin de L'Amitie" issue of Derriere Le Miroir (No. 225), 1977, in an unsigned edition of 15,000. This example came to be signed later by Chagall in pencil at lower right ("complimentary signature"), perhaps at a special gallery or printer event. The sheet measures 14 1/2" by 21", with a simple blue frame (no mat). There are condition issues...

Some time ago one Connie Elrod offered me a set of the Maki zodiac in a format never seen before or since. These are not pulled from cement blocks. Rather they seem to be printed lithographs. One James Imai, a friend of Maki who lives in California, commissioned Maki to do a special zodiac set for the Lunar Year. Imai seems to have sent a card every year to friends. Imai sent them to his friend James Elrod seemingly one every year for 12 years...

Printed by Roger Lacourière (French, 1892–1966) Date: 1934 Medium: Etching Dimensions: plate: 8 11/16 x 5 3/4 in. (22.1 x 14.6 cm) sheet: 15 1/8 x 11 1/8 in. (38.4 x 28.3 cm) Condition is very good some minor staining and foxing very slight minor surface creasing.

The strokes in this print are "U", no meaning. This is an early print using Hiragana. It is two brush strokes piercing the space, leaving a trace of itself before coming to the bottom of the paper. It has but one splash across the top and a red tear along the side and then: Whoosh it goes as in the red image at the bottom. There is one sun at the outer edge of the stroke and two moons inside the curving stroke. Not so simple after all.

This is an original etching and aquatint print with embossing on a heavy, quality handmade paper, the sheet 19 1/2" by 26", (currently unframed), the work titled "The White Nile", signed in pencil at lower right and numbered 44/125 at lower left. The total edition (including proofs?) may have been 250. The print is extremely clean and fresh and in excellent condition, with the exception of some tape residue on the reverse and very small light stain at left margin, barely visible...

Ruth Doris Swett 1901- Member of Southern Printmakers This is an original drypoint etching by American Southern artist Ruth Doris Swett. The title of this etching is Deer Isle Spruces, created when she was summering up in Maine. This etching is pencil signed, titled and dedicated to: Margarest Strong. The image measures 12X8 7/8 inches. Printed on a medium weight wove type paper in an edition of 50.

A late 19th century etching of a young woman, measuring 5 3/4" by 4" inside the mat, the laid paper sheet 10" by 7 1/4", and 19 1/4" by 15 1/2" nicely framed, with a monogram in the plate at right center and an illegible pencil signature at lower right that appears to begin with "J". As the work somewhat resembles some portrait etchings by the famous artist Whistler, and the monogram almost appears as an early Whistlerian "butterfly" before it evolved, I thought the work possibly by Whistler...

Chromolithograph late 19th century print after a work by the noted German landscape artist THEODORE WEBER (1838-1907), the scene of the Italian coast, figures walking up a hillside road leading away from the sea, an ancient church steeple at left. The piece measures 18 3/4" by 12 1/2" inside the old mat, 28" by 21" in old gold frame, which shows its age with various chips and losses. Weber's oils and watercolors sell to about the $10,000 level at auctions...

Robert Shaw was a contemporary of Howard Pyle and J.D. Chalfont. - He is best known for his Delaware scenes and did not exhibit widely outside Wilmington and seems to have had little interest in exhibiting nationally. He did, however, show in the Delaware Building at the World's Columbian Exposition and also at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 1890. This work is dated 1909
