This is an original hand-colored, 19th century lithograph print by the iconic American ornithologist and naturalist artist JOHN J. AUDUBON (1785-1851), from the nineteenth century series in the small octavo size. Inside the present mat, dimensions are 9 1/4" by 6" inside the innermost mat (16 1/2" by 13" as framed). The title is "Cliff Swallow" and this is Plate number 47 in a long series of bird prints in the small octavo size...

Printed by Richter & Co. of Napoli, the subject is a handsome young man, sword in hand, partially draped in the green, white and red of the Italian flag.
