This is a very lovely black beaded handbag made in France with delicate embroidered flowers on the front ; the back of the purse has no flowers. The purse is in excellent condition, with only minor bead loss in the top row of the purse and on the clasp. It could certainly be replaced. The inside is very clean, fully lined and has a mirror pocket. The label states Hand Made in France by Denise Francelli of Paris . This bag looks like it's made of bakelite, but it doesn't test as such. I went and learned a lot about early plastics from Andrea DeNoto's book, " Art Plastic," and the best I can come up with is Thermoset Phenolic Resin. That said, whatever the material, this is an extraordinary bag in extraordinary condition.
