A set of four fans (uchiwa) made of bamboo and washi (Japanese hand-made paper). Each has hand-painted pictures and signs such as three kabuki "kumadori" which is special makeup of the kabuki player and Otahuku. All have the same written seal marks, however the name of the artist is not clear. Two are painted with kakishibu (persimmon tannin) 20th century. In excellent condition. W:30.5cm H:35.5cm

Chinese polychrome enamel decorated porcelain ovoid vase, the globular body featuring Chinese figures and flowering plants and pine trees, pair of stylized dragon handles below the dished rim, marked Chinese characters on the bottom, Republic Period. Vintage small Chinese scholar’s buffalo horn seal of square section, traces of red seal paste in the grooves. The impression of the seal is shown on the first photo where it is flipped left to right to present the image as it will print on paper. Beautiful light colored horn, mellow patina, in great condition. Very nice object for a scholar’s desk. Height 1.48 inches, base 0.58 inches square.

Very fine 1920's deep yellow guilloche enamel sterling silver 8 day clock. This lovely clock measures 4 3/4" high and is 3 1/2" at its widest point. Small blue, white, and green enamel flowers accent each corner. The clock face is a wheat color with gilded numbers, a gold color rim, and blue hands. A convex glass covers the face of the clock. Chinese blanc de chine porcelain statue of Quan Yin, the Buddhist bodhisattva associated with compassion. Her name is short for Guanshiyin, meaning "Observing the Cries of the World." She is seated upon a large wooden seat and wears a gorgeous cascading robe with strands of beads adorning her torso and legs. In her right hand she holds the branch of a willow tree. This child's dress front in cross stich from central Afghanistan dates to the mid to late 20th century. It measures 11¾ x 18 inches (29.8 x 45.7 cm). Traditional Hazara pieces (the smallest ethnic minority group of Afghanistan), like Pashtun pieces, have a yoke under the neckline from which gathered, long panels of fabric flow. Sleeves are normally wide, and they wear matching cuffed pants underneath...

DESCRIPTION: An antique hand-painted ceremonial drum with vivid motifs of large flowers with curling green tendrils against a red ground. Both ends of the drum are covered in animal hide and secured with round-headed metal studs. This highly decorative drum makes a perfect little end table, or adds a touch of exotic to any décor.
