Hanten with sashiko (quilting) which is made in Shonai in Yamagata prefecture in Tohoku District, which is made of hand-spun cotton and vegetable indigo dye. It has 2 layers of cloth with sashiko. This prewar satsuma reclining cat is 9 inches long, 5 ½ inches wide and 4 inches tall. It is in good condition. Some color has rubbed off.
A pair of cotton tabi with sashiko and a pair of kokake. Tabi is made of hand-spun white cotton and has nice sashiko for strength. Soles are machine-woven. Kokake is also made of hand-spun cotton and dyed with vegetable indigo and has fine sashiko for also strength. Lovely small plique-a-jour bowl on three small feet, design of flowers, good condition, size is 3 5/8" wide diameter by 2" tall, Showa Period (circa 1930's), Japan.
A mid 20th century Tokoname vase with dragon decoration. This example is a red ware production from the historic tile kilns. A dragon is depicted in low relief among stippled clouds. Extensive gilding remains on the dragon's scales and other places. Bamboo form handles. Key borders outside the foot and mouth rims and floral border under the mouth rim. Good condition. Anonymous. Height about 8 1/2 inches (21.59 cm)

A Japanese sake ewer (kurojoka) shaped as a minogame (mythical tortoise with a tail that symbolizes long life) covered with mottled brown, gray and yellow glaze, probably from Satsuma province in southern Kyushu Island.
Kuro (black) joka is a container that is used to heat "shochu" wine which is made from sweet potatoes. Shochu, started in Kagoshima area has been a cheaper wine for common people. It is different from "sake" wine which is brewed rice wine...

This is an imposing early 19th century Kakiemon style porcelain vase of Japanese origin inspired by a 17th century model currently valued in excess of $700,000. A piece similar to the original dated 1680 from the Blenheim Palace collection was exhibited at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford in 1989.
21" in height, this vase is well enameled with three identical garden scenes separated with bands of blue flowering vines.
