NAMU AMIDA BUTSU IN SWORD STYLE

Japanese Buddhist hanging scroll mounted with woodblock-printed paper talisman so-called 'Riken Myogo' ("Namu Amida Butsu" in sword style) as a chanting of homage to Amida Buddha written in sharp‐pointed font like the sword that protect from evil spirit. Showa period, 20th century. Mounting: 26.5 x 127.2 cm (10.43 x 50.07in)...

Written on the inside of the original box is the artists' testimonial to this piece. Carved by famed carver Terada Keitaro (artist name : Kei'in) when he was 71 and his retirement piece. Carved in Showa 29 (1954) he went into Ryozen-zan mountain in Shiga Prefecture and found the perfect wild mulberry wood for his final masterpiece. Katsuda Tetsu(1896-1980) was a Japanese painter from the Taisho(1912-1926) and Showa era (1926-1989). He studied Western painting at Tokyo School of Fine Arts (now Tokyo University of the Arts). He turned to Japanese painting and became an apprentice to Yamamoto Shunkyo(1872-1933) in 1923...

This is an exquisite example of Japanese Cloisonne mounted on a silver-plated form. As the images show, The wire and wireless enameling are superb. Condition is also outstanding. It stands 8 inches tall and is 7 1/2 inches wide. We never seen another like this one.

This is a nicely done vintage Japanese Cloisonne vase with two Angelfish. The work is both silver wire and wireless. It's a heavy stout piece with no signature. It measures 6 1/4 inches by 6 1/4 inches. Over the years, we haven't seen many Angelfish vases.

19th century netsuke of a sitting boy holding a turtle with one hand, and trying to break its shell with a stone that he holds in the other. Unusual subject, strong early carving, wonderful wear consistent with age, beautiful patina with yellowing on the back, where netsuke was touching silk of the kimono. Nice textile patterns, Height 1.41 inches.

The Takahashi family is along with the Ueda family the oldest potter family in Shigaraki and Takahashi Rakusai III b.1898-1976 was largely responsible for the revival of unglazed Shigaraki pottery in the 20th century. Working in the third generation he was designated a "Shiga Prefectural Intangible Cultural Property" in 1964 for his countless efforts. He was succeeded in 1976 by his son Takahashi Rakusai IV who was designated by government as "Intangible Cultural Property"...
