A very rare 5 panel bride’s noren. The bottom of the curtain has a lovely delicate aqua wash. Traditionally the bride would hang this curtain in the doorway for about 2 weeks after she was married to announce that she was a member of the new family and that she has taken her husband’s family crest. This glass vase was produced in France in the 1920s. We attribute it to Daum Lorrain for its color and style. It is not signed. The vase is 12 3/4 inches high and the diameter of the opening is 5 3/4 inches. It is blown into a mold producing its art deco form. The base is thick and quite heavy. The vase draws gracefully upward from this point with the glass thinning significantly. The colors within the glass are iron red and mauve. They form a pattern with a marble like texture...

These geta (shoes) were worn by a girl or young Japanese woman. Build up from several layers of materials, the felted soles have slits to allow access for the changing of thongs should they become soiled or worn. Small pieces of leather nailed are the heels. The upper fabric liner is made from two pieces of contrasting fabric sewn together and show a small amount of dirt and an almost imperceivable foot imprint about the toe area...

This porcelain and metal dresser box was produced in France by Tharaud Limoges before 1930. It has a double mark which signifies that the porcelain and the decoration were done in the factory. The box has a gilded metal frame and foot. We don't know what the metal is. It measures 5 1/4 inches across and 3 1/2 inches high. The decoration on the lid is bold and striking in the art deco manner. The stylized flowers and abstract lines melt and flow into each other...

This blouse is from Thailand and made for use by a Karen Hilltribe woman. First the fabric was hand woven from cotton fibers. Next the surface was lower half was elaborately decorated with cotton thread embroidery and tiny sea urchin shells using a geometric pattern. Then it was whip stitched into the form of a blouse using white cotton thread. This garment makes a wonderful display piece and can also be worn for special occassions. 23 inches across and 27 inches long.

This 1930’s ivory carpenter is 9 ¼” high, 3 ¼” wide and 3 ¼” thick. It depicts a smiling carpenter carrying a wood bucket and cloth bag on his right arm and holding a saw in his left hand. His tool boxes are set in front of him. The artist’s signature “Gyokushi” is on the bottom. It is a well carved piece in great condition.

This very nice painted Famille Rose planter is 3 ¼ inches high, 8 3 /4 inches long and 7 inches deep. It is dated 1929. It depicts a water lily and leaf on one side and “Da Juan” style characters around the remaining sides. There is a red maker’s mark on the bottom but it is not readable. Aside from some small chips on the rim, it is in great condition.

This is an a beautiful Uchikake (Japanese wedding gown) covered with embroideries on satin. The workmanship shown in this gown is truely amazing. It is in new condition.
The pair of loving birds are Oshi-dori (Mandarin ducks) which are popular subjects relating to weddings. The theme of this gown is probably from Chapter 5, "Lavender" (Waka Murasaki) in "The Tale of Genji". When Genji was traveling the countryside for the first time, he saw a beautiful young girl crying...

A pretty Art Deco cut glass perfume bottle with an intaglio stopper. The periwinkle blue body is cut in a diamond pattern, while the flat round stopper has lapidary cut edges and an intaglio four-leaf clover. The overall effect is very sweet. The flat base is acid-etched “Made in Czechoslovakia” inside an elongated oval.
