A lovely massive relief carved in fine-crystalized white Marble from a grave, Roman Imperial Period, Eastern mediterraean, Late 2nd. / first half 3rd. century A.D.

The relief is showing a frontally standing family with raised right hands in an architectural frame.

Size: 42 cm. wide and 33 cm. tall and 7 cm. thick - a very impressive piece!

Condition: Choice, some overall wear, but fine for the type.

The three-drawer superstructure has a fold flap above two short and two long drawers on a molded plinth and small compressed bun feet. The stand and bowl of this vessel were cast separately and permanently joined at the time of production. The lid is topped with a lingzhi fungus. The entire piece is covered in an old brownish patina and small areas of verdigris. The lid fits very well into the grooved rim of the bowl.
