REMAINS OF HANIWA

Large remains of the ornament part of ancient Japanese hollow unglazed terracotta figure from the Kofun period (3rd-7th century) so-called ‘Haniwa'. 20 x 14 x 4.5 cm (7.87 x 5.51 x 1.77in). Still left original paint as a rare piece. Bonded repair as seen. (Clearly from the back side but not from the front side.) Handmade removable wire hanging hook is attached.

Japanese Sake cup - Hagi ware with box - Beautiful blue glaze work of Seigan Yamane. The cup has the maker's signature mark stamped on the bottom. Height: 2.0" (5 cm). Diameter: aprox 2.5" (6.5 cm). Condition: The cup has a chip in the edge cover by the glaze, apparently made during the manufacturing process (please, see photos).

Japanese Meiji to Showa period oval form ikebana basket (hanakago) hand-woven from reddish bamboo with natural gnarled wood branches incorporated. Four strips rise from each side of the shoulder and are twisted together to form the high loop handle. Round mouth and base. 18” high with handle (9 1/4" high excluding handle); about 10” diameter. Late 19th to early 20th century. Very good overall condition with minor wear. From a Scottsdale, Arizona estate.

Fine Chinese Ming Dynasty Blue & White Porcelain Brush Washer

This attractive small porcelain jar, a brush washer, was made during the late 15th to early 16th century. It is relatively heavily-potted and decorated in underglaze blue of very good colour with a pattern featuring scrolling lotus blossoms. Both inner and outer surfaces are coated in a thick glaze. The foot and recessed flat base remain unglazed.

A box for keeping incense – kogo – decorated with a carriage used by court nobles and members of the Imperial family of the past in dense gold dust sprinkle on a black lacquer background. The sky sprinkled with clouds of nashiji. Insides with dense nashiji. The bottom section decorated with a rock surrounded by bamboo in gold togidashi and kao of tea master Hisada Soya. Silver rims.

Cedar wooden ‘post-hide’ or hashira kakushi that is used as a decoration of the vertical post in a room that is not a corner post, or the vertical post of the tokonoma (niche). This Japanese okimono quality bronze turtle has a champleve decorated shell that opens to reveal a pipe stand. The turtle measures about 6 1/2" long x 3" wide x 2" tall and dates to the turn of the Century. The turtle has the makers' impressed seal underneath.
