Pair of German 800 silver figural bird bowl, ca 1920. Each: Swan with ovoid body, upturned tail, and scaly-s-scroll neck terminating in in closed bill. Imbricated feathers and hinged plumy wings that can be opened to suggest flight. Hollow gilt-washed interior for holding treats. German marks including Hanau maker’s stamp (Gebrüder Neumann) and American importer’s stamp (Buchholz & Zelt). Very good condition.

Sometime around the year 1600 the first Takatori kiln was constructed at the foot of Mt Takatori in Fukuoka. Embossed Olden Days scenes of merrymaking with dancing and flirting by men in neck ruffs and women in laced bodices. On front are massed soldiers carrying swords and pikes. Gilt interior. Stylish and jokey sterling silver cabbage head sauce bowl and ladle. Made by Buccellati in Italy. Domed cover set in bowl, both comprising overlapping leaves with realistic veins and irregularities. Ladle has branch handle and leaf bowl. Clear glass liner. Ladle marked “Buccellati Italy Sterling”. Bowl has post-1967 mark (26 MI) with “Buccellati / Italy / Sterling” and “925 [in oval]”.
