You would be forgiven if you thought that this vase was made by Tiffany since its maker, Alton Manufacturing, hired away several Tiffany glass makers to start its production of competing wares in 1907, the only year the company produced glass.

This example of the Trevaise branding, analagous to favrile, has a flaring bulbous form with mauve ground and freely flowing and lingering tendrils with leaves attached, punctuated with white flowering blossoms. The affect is subtle and soft -...

Confirmed unsigned Chanel necklace circa 1960 or 1970; I recently saw this same necklace with a Chanel hang tag with just the name in block lettering (no season numbers or copyright symbols), which dates it to 1970 or prior. I had previously listed this necklace as a probable Chanel. Designed in the Indian moghul style which was one of Chanel's main influences, with red and green Gripoix poured glass beads simulating carved rubies and emeralds, and dark goldtone beaded drops and term...

Fine Pair of Tall Chinese Han Dynasty Burnished Pottery Vases

This fine, impressive and very rare pair of pottery vases was made during the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 8) or possibly a little earlier. They are of a particularly pleasing and elegant form, the wide bodies rising up from the flat bases, then constricting into long slender necks and finally opening up into fairly wide mouths. They are quite "heavily-potted" and made from a dense fine-grained dark grey pottery, the surface o...

Conceived by 20th century master ceramicist Kawai Kanjiro—here an abstract depiction of flowers is used to adorn an exquisite “henko” shaped vase. The glaze used is known as “tetsu-yu” for its use of iron compounds to achieve this distinctive look. Though many pieces by Kanjiro remain today, this exact combination of style, shape, and glazing is uncommon, making this a must-have work for serious collectors. Interestingly, though it may likely not have been intentional, the abstract sym...

Published in 1913, by Valentine & Sons, Dundee, London, and Montreal, this extremely rare publication, "Ten Little Nigger Boys", is a highly creative and imaginative variation of the original 1869 minstrel song "Ten Little Niggers", composed by the British songwriter Frank Green.

(Likely inspired by Frank Green's lyrics, Agatha Christie, in 1939, composed her very well-known "Ten Little Niggers" story, with the title for the 1940 US edition changed to "And Then There Were None", the final lin...
