A Meissen porcelain cream pot and cover circa 1745 with a pine cone finial. The under glaze hand painted pattern is a variation on the Meissen onion pattern. The crossed sword mark is loosely painted in under glaze blue with an extra dot that is sometimes found on early pieces. Height is approximately 5 ½ inches (14cm). Width from spout to handle is approximately 5 ¾ inches (14.6cm).

Condition: There are firing flaws where the feet attach to the pot. No chips, cracks, or repairs...

A medium size porcelain bowl with a lattice impressed border at the top and blue hand painted flowers. On the underside are the three waves and the number two, both hand painted in underglaze blue. Additionally there is a hand incised three in the body. This piece must have been early to have escaped the factory with the fairly dramatic warping that must have occurred during firing. A quatrefoil sugar bowl, cover and stand all with floral decoration. The cover with a plum like fruit and leaf finial. Both the stand and the cover have painted dark purple rims. Both the stand and the bowl are marked with incised, “DV”. The stand has no punctuation and the bowl has a period after each letter. The stand is approx. 8 ½ by 7 inches (22 x 18 cm) and the sugar bowl with cover is 4 inches tall, 6 ½ inches long and 5 inched wide (10.5 x 17 x 13 cm)...

A set of six Dutch delft wall tiles of a hand painted blue basket of fruit inside a square with a white square behind it at 45 degrees with the same orientation as the tile with its manganese ground. A porcelain ovoid form teapot with a floral knop and hand painted with floral sprays on either side and floral sprigs on above and below the handle, picked out with magenta, and on the spout as well as above and below. The crossed hayforks with a line through them was the factory mark for the late 198th century. An underglaze blue with overglaze orange and gilt Chinese export plate with plants flowering out of rocks in the center. On the border the panels of flowering branches alternate with stylized trellises. The edge is brown. The back is plain with an unglazed foot rim. This style of decoration is from the first half of the 18th century. 9 1/8 inch (22.5 cm) diameter.

Condition; no chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs...

A pewter tankard marked with the partial touch of John Townsend on the bottom of the inside of the bowl. There are no other marks except the engraved initials “I or J Y” on the front of the tankard. It is 7 inches (17.7 cm) tall and about 6 ½ inches (15 cm) from the front to the back edge of the handle.

Condition: Excellent. The engraving is very crisp. There are a few small dings on the edge of the lid and along the bottom edge...

A complexly decorated Chinese export plate in underglaze blue with overglaze red, orange and gilding depicting scrolling plants, two panels with a house under a flowering tree and an octagonal symbol in the center. Brown painted rim. There are trailing blue and red plants on the back and the foot is unglazed. Probably more toward the first quarter of the 18th century than the second quarter...

A pair of porcelain dinner plates with molded basketweave edge and swirl ribbing with the lines extending into the well. Decorated with hand painted overglaze flowers and a gilt edge. The style closely resembles Meissen, but these are unmarked. The four ribs in four groups of four is identical with a plate pictured in Godden's book on Coalport that he dates from c. 1805 to 1810. 10 inches (23.5 cm) diameter. Unmarked.

An interesting blue and white hand pained porcelain plate of two scholars(?) greeting each other and a boy carrying a load in front of water with a rising moon in the far distance. There is an elaborate border including scholar’s roles on the side of the well between the rim and the center and at the outside of the rim leaf and flower border. I suspect that there is a very good version of this scene that was the model for this quickly done one that has a kind of folk art charm. Brown painted e...

A lobed dinner plate 9 ½ inches (24 cm) diameter decorated with a sprig of cornflowers (?) in the center of the well surrounded with numerous single red or gilt flowers. The lip is decorated with richly gilt and enamel swags surrounding floral cartouches. The rubbed overglaze “VV” on the back is the mark for the Verneuilh factory. It dates from the 1780’s; possibly 1787 when Vanier entered a contract with the Verneuilhs.

A creamware mug with a black transfer depicting two men walking across a bridge over a stream that pours into a peaceful river with a sailboat and boat with freight steered by a man in the stern. In the distance people on a point of land and in the far distance, beyond bends in the river, the top of an obelisk shows against the horizon. The oval transfer appears as if it was slightly too tall for the mug, being cut off at the bottom. It is otherwise framed with a laurel leaf surround. 3 5/8 inch...

A hard paste porcelain shallow bowl commonly used for salad with a dentil gilt rim and hand painted with bouquets and sprays of flowers. The simplicity of the painting is not an indication of poor work, there was at times a fashion for simple looking things; think of Marie Antoinette at her dairy at Versailles. This bowl is from the same period. 8 1/4 inch (21 cm) diameter.

A porcelain (hard paste) baluster form coffee pot decorated with a small bouquet of flowers and a few sprigs on one side and a few sprigs on the other with reddish purple ribbon with flowers around the top of the pot and the outside of the lid. Also on the pot a double band with entwined roses. The lid with a vented knop, which is a feature of silver form New Hall teapots. A silver form porcelain teapot with the vented knop on the lid and the pattern number, “N 195” in red enamel on the base. This pattern is known as the “knitting wool” pattern. 5 ¾ (14.6 cm) inches tall, 9 3/8 inches (23.8 cm) across the handle and spout.

Condition: excellent. A tiny rough spot on the lip of the spout might be a tiny glaze chip or it could be a very small firing loss.

I think this form is one of the most pleasing for late 18th century teapots.

A well made 18th century Italian dry drug jar. The body is a red clay covered with white slip then painted in blue with a dentil style pattern at the top and bottom with the name of the drug in the central section. The inside is similarly covered in white slip and shows the ridges from being turned on a potter’s wheel. This jar would have been part of a set of jars used for dry drugs in a pharmacy. 7 ¼ inches tall and 4 ¾ inched diameter. (18.5 cm tall, 12 cm diameter).

A well decorated Chinese Imari export plate with underglaze blue and overglaze red, orange and gold. The scene of flowering plants and a Chinese fence covers the face of the plate, from the rim on one side, across the center and onto the opposite rim. There is a single blue line at the outer border and a brown edge. The back is decorated with blue and red trailing flowers and has an unglazed foot. Probably the first quarter of the 18th century. 8 5/8 inch (22 cm) diameter.

A hand thrown and painted hard paste porcelain punch bowl decorated on the outside with four bunches of roses and four groups of buds of roses around the outside under a wavy orange border on a tall foot. The inside edge is a band of black and orange hexagons in a Chinese manner under a gilt rim. In the bottom of the bowl is another bunch of roses.
