A porcelain two handled bowl with applied porcelain flowers and a fruit finial with bold floral decoration combined with gilding. Though the form is likely to be derived from early Meissen, the decoration is much later in tone. Unmarked though there are indications that there may have been a mark on the bottom at one time. 4 ¼ inches (11 cm) tall, 6 ½ inches (16.5 cm) across the handles.

Oil on canvas of two horses eating cut greens with chickens pecking the earth nearby in a clean but slightly rundown curral (farmyard) under bright sunlight and with bright red blossoming tree behind the horses losing some blossoms. Giovanni Oppido (1907-1988) is a well documented Brazilian artist. The painting is 23 x 46 ¼ inches (58.4 x 117.5 cm) with frame 27 ½ x 50 inches (69.8 x 127 cm). Signed lower left.

A creamware dinner plate with shaped edge, elaborate painted lattice border on the rim and good “Chinese scene” decoration to the body of the plate. Though it is unmarked it is almost certainly English from the late18th century. The color is deep cobalt blue and the execution very good. 10 inch (25.5 cm) diameter.

Condition: no chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs. Looks almost new with very little wear.

Lacquer over wood picnic set in an open carrier; consisting on the top tier of a small rectangular box, presumably for utensils, and five small trays. Below them is a covered three tier jubako box. The black lacquer is incised in places and otherwise decorated with gilt and silver blossom sprays. A small copper/brass handle is on the top. Many of the edges are gilt. It is 9 5/8 inches (24.5 cm) tall, 9 5/8 inches (24.5 cm) wide and 7 ¼ inches (18.3 cm) deep. 20th century.

Box 653/HENDERSONVILLE, N.C.” Peter Murphey ran a small ad in The Transylvania Times, of Brevard N.C. June 3, 1965 advertising a continuous Craftsmans Fair at his address. An oil on Masonite painting of a red roofed mill with the mill pond in the foreground and a barn against a hill in the distance. Painted in an unusual palette that includes lavender. I have been unable to find a listing for the artist. In a new frame. 10 by 12 inches, with frame 12.5 by 14.5 inches.

Condition: excellent.

Though it is difficult to date, I suspect it is from the middle of the 20th century and most likely to be American.

Okii Hashimoto, Japanese (1899-1993), woodblock print titled in pencil in the left margin, pencil signed on the lower margin, the artist’s printed signature on right and red seal on the lower left of the print. Probably from the 1960’s. The paper is 23 ½ b7 17 ½ inches (59.5 x 44.5 cm), image 21 ½ by 15 5/8 inches (54.5 x 39.5 cm). The wormy chestnut frame is 30 by 23 inches.

Condition; good with good bleed through to the back, though there is residue of old mounting with masking tape...

Alfred Hair (American, 1941-1970) was an early Florida Highwaymen painter. This large painting depicts two leaning palm trees just above a beach with two high tide lines of debris, curling waves and seagulls all under a sunny but partially cloudy sky. Signed, “A. Hair” lower left. The painting is 24 ¼ x 36 ¼ inches. The apparently original frame is 29 ½ x 41 ½ inches. Painted on panel (Upson board).

Oil on canvas by Fred Pye (American, 1882-1964) of a wave crashing onto a rocky shore with whitecaps further offshore and a sunny but partly cloudy sky; in an elaborate white painted and gilt frame. Born in Iowa, studied in Paris Pye later lived in Cincinnati and painted in Maine. 26 x 36 inches (66 x 91 cm). Frame 32 ½ x 42 ½ inches (82,5 x 108 cm). Signed lower right in red Fred Pye. Based on the sticker on the back he was a member of The American Professional Artists League.

Japanese porcelain high footed dish in the form of a late 17th century Nabeshima dish. This one is a fairly straight forward copy of one of a set of dishes at the Tokyo Museum depicting an old cherry tree with abundant blossoms, proably made sometime in the 20th century. Underglaze blue and overglaze enamels. 10 inches (25.5 cm) diameter and 2 7/8 inches (7.5 cm) tall.

A pair of globular small electric bedside lamps decorated with roses hand painted by Joseph Nekola Junior and sold by Plitchta, London. Joseph, the son of Karel Nekola an original decorator at Weymss, was taught by his father to paint the well know roses. After the original factory at Weymss closed the Bovey Pottery in Devon continued to make, “Weymss Ware” with Joseph the decorator and trainer of apprentices. Plitchta was a wholesaler and exporter.

A pastel of the river Seine in Paris with the top of a building in the distance over leafy trees and a barge passing through the arch of a bridge by the American born Louis Orr who spent much of his life in Paris. This in a nice example of his work in a new mat and frame. Sight size of pastel 12 by 16 inches (30 by 40 cm) frame size 19 3/8 by 23 3/8 inches (49 by 59 cm).

Condition: Excellent with acid free mat and backing.

A sepia toned silver print of Tipsco lake with Mount Rainer in the background in a textured white mat, simple blond wood frame and a brass plaque identifying the image as follows, “MT. RAINER – TIPSCO LAKE/ MT. RAINER NATIONAL PARK.” Out of the frame there is no identification of the photographer. Image 15 3/8 X 19 3/8 inches. Frame 23 X 25 7/8 inches.

A large sepia toned silver print of Wizard Island in Crater Lake in a textured white mat, a simple light wood frame and a brass plaque inscribed, “CRATER LAKE – WIZARD ISLAND/ CRATER LAKE NATIONAL PARK.” No signature on the face of the photo and it has not been removed from what was probably the original frame and mat. Japanese woodblock print of the Yasaka pagoda in Kyoto by Toshijiro Inagaki (1902-1963) depicting, almost exclusively in shades of blue, the pagoda and surrounding houses with water and hills in the distance. The blue is relieved by a few touches of red and yellow. The artist’s seal is in the lower left corner. This design is from the 1950’s but it is not numbered so may be from a later edition. Sheet 7 ½ x 10 1/8 inches (19 x 25.5 cm), image 6 x 8 3/8 inches (15.3 x 21.5 cm).

Oil on artist board of waves breaking on a rocky coast titled on the back in pencil, “Surf at Loblolly Cove.” Stanley Woodward, American (1890-1970), was a well-known Rockport Massachusetts artist. Also on the back is written in pencil, “FOR 1949 EXHIB.” The frame has printed on the lower edge words about copyright by Woodward so the silver gilt frame and narrow painted liner are original to the painting. Painting size 20 X 24 inches. Frame size 24 ¼ X 28 ¼ inches.

An unsigned watercolor on heavy textured white drawing paper of corn ricks and pumpkins on a gentle slope with blue sky above and hills in the distance. It is well executed with the focus carried to the rick in the front by the use of details there and looser painting in other parts of the watercolor. The bowl done on the backside of the page also shows the artists quality. The bowl seems to clearly indicate that the work was done in the earlier part of the 20th century. The Watercolor is 12 by ...
