Twelve eight pointed stars made of cotton printed in orange with small yellow clover-like shapes arranged in rows of twos and threes with alternating white squares all enclosed in three bands of the same printed fabric. The outside band is turned over the edge to join the white cotton backing. Cotton seeds visible in the stuffing. All hand stitched. A well made 18th century Italian dry drug jar. The body is a red clay covered with white slip then painted in blue with a dentil style pattern at the top and bottom with the name of the drug in the central section. The inside is similarly covered in white slip and shows the ridges from being turned on a potter’s wheel. This jar would have been part of a set of jars used for dry drugs in a pharmacy. 7 ¼ inches tall and 4 ¾ inched diameter. (18.5 cm tall, 12 cm diameter).

An oil on Masonite painting of a red roofed mill with the mill pond in the foreground and a barn against a hill in the distance. Painted in an unusual palette that includes lavender. I have been unable to find a listing for the artist. In a new frame. 10 by 12 inches, with frame 12.5 by 14.5 inches.

Condition: excellent.

Though it is difficult to date, I suspect it is from the middle of the 20th century and most likely to be American.

A Chelsea plate, heavily potted with the three stilt marks on the bottom and a small gold anchor. The outer edge with small molded waves and the inner edge of the plate rim with larger ones. On the rim the gilding and the blue decoration accentuate this motion (don’t get seasick). A Chinese hand painted blue and white porcelain deep dish with a wide rim and a brown outside edge. The underglaze blue decoration on the inside is flowers and a table with a vase of flowers. On the outside are a couple of loosely painted floral designs. Height 1 ½ inches (4 cm) and 6 3/8 inches (16 cm) diameter.

Condition: No cracks, hairlines or repairs. One small chip on the rim. There are a few firing flaws and some use scratches in the bottom of the bowl.

A thick tapered sided tile decorated in blue of a man in a hat swinging a colf club at a ball with the post that is the target of the game in the distance. There is no decoration in the four corners. A very well printed image with deep contrasts in tones. The image is from around 1875. 7 9/16 tall by 10 3/16 inches (19.5 x 26 cm). Card 13 by 16 inches (33 x 40.5 cm).

A pewter tankard marked with the partial touch of John Townsend on the bottom of the inside of the bowl. There are no other marks except the engraved initials “I or J Y” on the front of the tankard. Allison, Margaret Prosser American born 1913. Oil on canvas of a steam train in the foreground passing through a town with trees in full summer leaf. A pieced cotton quilt in a pattern called, “Goose on the pond” probably from the mid-West and made in the late 19th century. The pattern is made up of pattern printed blue, orange and white fabrics.
