Late 18th to early 19th century Japanese lacquer 5-compartment inro with a stunning design of a dragon!

It has a fantastic lacquer work called Maki-E. The inside is covered with precious Nashiji Gold Dust. This techique was only used for luxury items for the most famous Samurai fighter.

The material of the Netsuke and the string fastener (ojime) is Kotsu, a delicate work.

Very good condition with only little damages due to the high age...

A Japanese blue & white porcelain dish, moulded in ‘kraak’ style with the cavetto featuring butterflies and peaches in relief. The rinka, or petalled edge, with flowers. The centre of of the dish has a depiction of a gated pavilion set in a fabulous garden. Arita 1750 ~ 1770. A bowl with a very similar border design and alternate moulded butterflies and peaches is shown in the Catalogue of the Shibata Collection, item 3321.

Finely carved wooden figure of Gyochu Kishimojin, the hands folded together in prayer, standing on an upside down lotus leaf, positioned on a rocky base. Plain wood, carved in a slightly facetted way that gives texture to his garment and skin. The base and the lotus gilded over lacquer. Inscribed on back: Kishibojin, opening of the eyes, Nichiren. Edo Period, early 1700s

This small, double-doored black lacquered shrine contains a carved and gilded sandalwood image of a Bodhisattva sitting on a lotus throne. The gilding is original and is worn from age and use. There are also some losses to the lotus leaves. The two doors are attached by small gilt bronze hinges and a brnze ring is affixed to the top for attachment to a garment belt. Acquired in Kyoto, Japan in 1973.
