Small porcelain dish from Japan. Decor of birds in flight in a landscape with trees and flowers painted in enamels and gilding. The porcelain is exceedingly thin similar to eggshell porcelain. Three Chinese characters are enamelled in red below, probably Kutani's mark. The designs are neat and of the best quality. Very fragile but good condition. D:138mm.

A rare Ko Imari scalloped rimmed dish decorated with an eremetic motif of a scholar’s refuge in an idealised landscape. The rim celadon seji glazed and decorated with a depiction of the Three Friends of Winter in gilt outlined enamels. The reverse of the dish is celadon glazed to the foot-ring. A medium sized bowl decorated in “Kinrande” style for the Japanese domestic market. These richly enamelled wares were patronised by the wealthy merchant class and tend to be decorated primarily with auspicious objects and patterns, kissho-ga which gives rise to the alternative description “katamono”, meaning literally standard objects...

Chinese Song dynasty five-petal foliate form bowl covered in a pale creamy-celadon qingbai (yingqing) glaze that stops above the unglazed flat base. The glaze is thicker and more of a celadon color where is drips down from the top edge into the interior. Circa 13th century. 6” diameter x 1 7/8” high. Good overall condition. There are a few tiny nicks to the unglazed edge and there are glaze losses to the outer edge that might have occurred in the kiln...
