An unusual Arita bowl decorated to the exterior with an auspicious Hundred Chinese Boys pattern, baizi tu, which shows karako, Chinese boys, engaged in various playful activities, principally Fan and Flag waving, moving large objects and chasing chicken. Of the over 10,000 artifacts that the late world famous Dr. Allen Heflin found, this little miniature hand-molded ceramic female figurine ranks among the rarest. This is a pottery vessel originating in the Han Dynasty of ancient China (206 BCE to 220 CE). Vessels such as these were often used as wine containers. This piece his beautifully sculpted and has great colors. There is a repair two the foot of the jar. There are also small chips and abrasions throughout and possible areas of professional restoration. It measures 29 cm in heights and 32 cm in width.

19th century small marine material ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) carved in the round with a man trying to fish in a stream with a double gourd next to a pine and a woven fence. Ojime illustrates a Japanese proverb “Namazu hyotan kindama” (A gourd against a catfish) meaning useless effort similar to trying to catch a slippery fish with a gourd. Toward the late Qing and early Republic periods, footbinding in urban centers became less common. But women were still concerned with fashionable footwear. This pair of beaded strips are actually shoes parts which would have been sewn with other matching beaded fabric parts to form a pair of beaded shoes.

It is extremely difficult to find a Khmer Tazza and still much more difficult to find a Khmer Tazza in a fine condition like this. Stoneware covered by a very nice iron brown glaze which shows due to its high age an rainbow effect. Khmer, Cambodia, 12th century but excavated in Indonesia. H : 13,4 cm. Diameter : 24,2 cm. Condition : Very nice. No crack. Some glaze - splinterings to the underside of the base which are to see on the last enlargements.

Chinese Song / Yuan Dynasty Buddhist Pottery Zodiac Jar

This interesting pottery jar was made during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279), or possibly the Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279 - 1368) and has been been excavated from a Buddhist site in Yunnan province. Chinese jade carving known as a cong, an implement dating back to Neolithic China, once used for unknown but culturally important reasons. The cong is often seen with squared outer edges carved of a taotie or beast's mask, which the inside is smoothed round with a central groove. The stone's coloring is light green with mottled brown.
