16-17cc Korean Korai Komogai tea bowl which was imported to Japan during Edo Period.
It is very rare to see such bowls on the market.

Komogai is a type of Korai tea bowl. It has a unique appearance with a rounded waist and eversion of the rim of the mouth. The name Komogai was originally the name of a place in Gyeongsangnam-do in the southeastern part of the Korean Peninsula, but the reason why it became the name of the tea bowls is not clear...

A late 18th or early 19th Century Famille Rose enamelled jar made in China, probably for export, during the reign of the Jiaqing emperor. For comparison (of enamels) we have pictured two export Lion Joss Stick Holders (usually dated either late Qianlong or Jiaqing, circa 1800) in our last enlargement. Lovely Iban woman’s skirt from the Kapit region in Sarawak, circa 1940-1950. The broad center field is woven from handspun cotton and natural dyes. The red use in this is particularly rich. The narrow bands on the side are made of commercial thread and dye. This has a Bangit fruit pattern, which signifies “abundance”. There are a few minor frays and inevitable “pinholes”, but IMO the condition is good. L: 102cm/40in and W: 52cm/20.5in...

An exceptionally large and heavy bronze figure of Radha, Wife of Krishna, VAishnava Devotional og Bhakti traditions of Hinduism, 16th.-17th. century AD.

Very attractive figure of solid bronze with no core, Radha is in a standing posture with her arms, protruding round breasts, semi-nude addorned with jevellery.

Height 27 cm. excl. the wooden base. The weight is more than 3 kilograms!

A beautifully polished ritual hand axe in a mottled green nephrite with lighter inclusions dating to the late Neolithic period, circa 3500-2500BCE. Looking at the piece you can almost gain the impression of looking down at the sea from a great height, with scattered bits of land. A truly beautiful stone. Four inches in height (4") by 3" at the widest (10cm X 7.5cm).This piece has been seen and authenticated and is guaranteed to be ancient.

A Ko-Seto-yu Chaire Tea Container by Teishitsu Gigei-in Suwa Sozan I wrapped in a chord bound silk pouch enclosed in the original signed wooden box tied with deer leather, the box bearing the seal of the Imperial Art Academy. It is 5 cm (2 inches) tall and is in perfect condition.
Sozan I (1852-1922) was born in Kutani country, present day Ishikawa prefecture, where he initially studied before moving to Tokyo in 1875...

A Chinese painted grey pottery figure of a standing musician, very well modelled wearing a wind hat, his head turned down to the right. 20 cms. Northern Wei dynasty, 5th/6th century AD. Oxford TL Test Certificate. This is a rare figure. To date I have only seen one other musician from the same set.

This is a late Song dynasty finely potted qingbai meiping vase.The whole vase is incised with a freely carved design of lotus scrolling flowers and foliage, with combed detail on the petals and leaves. There are a total of 4 large lotus flowers on the vase...

A long dish of elliptical form moulded with petals decorated with a dense hagi-karakusa ground and an oval reserve containing a simple flowering Apricot, ume, growing from a rock. The reverse decorated with Karakusa sprigs, and a spiral Fuku within a double square. The dish dates to the early Eighteenth century circa 1700-1740. The dish is in good condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. It measures 20.3cm in diameter, 10xm at its widest and stands 4.5cm high

19th century marine ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) in ball shape carved in the round with shishi (Buddhist lion) frolicking among rocks and flowers. Beautifully carved, excellent patina, metal liner to the central hole. Diameter 0.68 inches.

A granite head piece was well preserved.
With characteristic facial features, the stone piece was retained on the surface with old conditions that only ancient time can cause.

Very refined Japanese lacquered wood tray representing a branch of plum blossoms and bamboo leaves in gold and brown lacquer. The decor is placed on a brown base in the style of a basket weave. The back is in black lacquer (ro-iro). The protective wooden box is original and signed on the lid and inside. Dimensions: 10 x 18 cm. Period: Meiji (1868-1912) 19/20th century.

Tibetan seated figure likely that of arhat Ajita, one of the 16 arhats. He is identified by two corresponding features; his hands which are resting in his lap in dhyanamudra (the gesture of mediation) and his covered head. His face is handsome (due to an accumulation of virtue) and his gaze is tranquil. Made of gilt copper repousse and with silver repousse over laid details. He sits on a lotus base and his facial features are painted.

Age: circa 1900

A large presentation tray in finely carved polished wood in the shape of a rounded stump cutout. The sides mimic the knotty grain of a tree trunk. This type of tray was used to present bonsai.

White porcelain bowl covered with transparent cracked glaze, decorated with volutes in cobalt blue under glaze. Vietnamese work from the 15-16th century. Good condition, normal wear for a centuries-old ceramic, an insignificant chip in the paste on the edge of the foot visible on photo. Diameter: 15cm. Compare with very same bowl ,housed in Birmingham Museum.

A delicate kiri-wood tray decorated with a fledgling among grass puffed up against the cold by important 20th century artist Domoto Insho enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Kosuzume Seifu (Small Sparrow, Pure Wind) and signed inside Insho Saku. It is 19 x 19 x 2.5 cm (7-1/2 x 7-1/2 x 1 inch) and is in excellent condition.

Antique Japanese gold lacquer inro with 4 compartments. Decorated with a scene depicting a cottage high in the mountains. On one side, a small stream meanders by a thatched roof building with doors opening to a garden surrounded by a low fence and opened by a tall gate. A large, blossoming plum tree stretches it's branches dramatically over the roof and a mist floats over the top of the scene. The other side of the inro depicts a churning river with ragged outcroppings of rock...

Late Meiji period (1890s to 1912) Japanese kushi (hair comb) inlaid with mother of pearl butterflies among flowers, design continuing onto the back. The body appears to be early plastic, beautiful inlay work, wonderful work in Japanese taste, loss to the wing of the larger butterfly as can be seen on photos. Length 3.85 inches.

1th Generation Zengoro Eiraku Hozen (1795-1855）Tea Bowl (Chawan) for Tea Ceremony.

The Eiraku family is one of the most important and historically significant family of potters in Japan since 17 century.
They belong to a limited number of craftsmen who is allowed to create tea ceremony utensils for three schools of tea ceremony which are Mushakoujisenke, Urasenke and Omotesenke.

Amazing massive ushabti of the finest style of the Late period, Egypt, 26th - 30th Dynasty, approx. 664 - 332 BC.

Shown mummiform, this exceptional large and beautiful Ushabti, still untranslated, probably represents an important nobleman. As quite rarely seen, the othervise greenish faience, came out as almost black in the kiln, so it looks almost like basalt, very attractive!

Rare Nakamura Donen (1876-1937) Mishima Ware Chawan Bowl with Gold Repair Kintsugi. Nakamura Donen was a famous potter during Meiji-Taisho periods who worked in different styles such as Raku and Mishima. An antique Japanese tansu chest known as a Kotansu (for personal storage) made entirely of Kirinoki (Paulownia) wood. Original bronze hardware. Six drawers of various sizes for organization and storage. Two sliding doors with a shelf behind. Constructed using hardened wood nails. It would make a practical side table or a nightstand.

Cotton futonji made of hand-spun cotton and vegetable indigo dye. It has tsutsugaki auspicious motifs such as crane, turtle, plum blossom, bamboo and pine tree. Tsutsugki technique is excellent. In good condition but has a mending patch causing the lacking part of design and re-sawn by machine, a mending patch and also a snag (2cm) in the upper part. 19th century. W:130cm, L:186cm

This apron is from the Huan Xi area and was part of the traditional Miao ethnic minority woman's festival costume. Made from home spun fibers,indigo dyed yarn, it is embroidered with tiny intricate cross stitch geometric design...the ties are also hand woven. The apron measures approx 17 x 17 inches and is in good condition...with a few very light stains which do not show on photo with enhancing...
